action

Wendy is a young woman with autism . She lives in a nursing home and, with the support of her carer, can cope with everyday life and has a job. She uses her free time to write a script for a new Star Trek film. She would like to submit this to a competition at Paramount Pictures in a few days . When her sister Audrey visits, it becomes clear that Wendy wants to go back home, but Audrey sees no way to do so. Desperate Wendy sees the prize money as an opportunity to change her sister's mind. Since there is no longer enough time to send it by post, she and her dog flee the nursing home the next morning to bring the script to Los Angeles herself. An adventurous journey begins. At the same time, her carer from the nursing home and her sister Audrey try to find Wendy, who has been reported missing. Despite several setbacks, Wendy makes it to Los Angeles, but is found there by a police patrol. The escape ends after the policeman, who knows about her love for Star Trek, wins her trust with a conversation in Klingon . Ultimately, Wendy is given the opportunity by her supervisor and her sister to hand in the script herself and thus to prove her independence. Wendy doesn't win the competition. In the final scene, however, she is sitting with her sister on the veranda of her parents' house and holding their baby in her arms.
