Felix Mayer

Felix Mayer (* 1961 in Quiigart , Saar ) is a German linguist and has been the director of the Languages ​​& Interpreters Institute in Munich since September 1, 2000 .

Life

In 1980 Felix Mayer graduated from high school and then did community service. He studied linguistics and translation science in Saarbrücken and Mulhouse and graduated in 1988 as a qualified translator in the field of "Applied Linguistics as well as Translation and Interpreting" at Saarland University (French, Italian, technical field). In 1989 he became an employee ("Product Manager") of the company SynTec, Stuttgart, in the area of ​​development of terminology database systems and 1989–1993 research assistant in the pilot project "Study component language data processing in translator and interpreter training" at the University of Saarland (Head: Wolfram Wilss ) . From 1993 to 2000 he was a research assistant and project manager of the research group “Terminology and Specialized Languages” as well as acting head of the “Language and Law” department of the European Academy in Bolzano . Since September 2000 Felix Mayer has been director of the "Languages ​​& Dolmetscher Institut München", SDI, and since July 2007 President of the International University SDI Munich (before 2020: University of Applied Languages).

Felix Mayer is married and has one daughter.

research

In 1996 Mayer wrote his dissertation on the topic of entry models for terminological databases - a contribution to translation-oriented terminography at the Philosophical Faculty of Saarland University. His main research interests are: machine-aided translation, terminography, language technology and specialist language research.
