Peter Sandrini

Peter Sandrini (born February 20, 1961 ) is a translation scholar and terminologist . He teaches and researches as an associate professor at the University of Innsbruck , Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies, Institute for Translation Studies .

Life

From 1981 to 1988, Sandrini completed a degree in translation at the University of Innsbruck, graduating in 1988 with a diploma thesis on the subject of problems of Italian-German translation in the area of ​​protection against dismissal, taking into account the South Tyrol-specific application problems . He received his doctorate in 1996 with his dissertation Terminology Work in Law: Descriptive Concept-Oriented Approach from the Translator's Point of View .

Since 1992 he has been teaching and researching as an assistant professor at the Institute for Translation Studies at the University of Innsbruck. He is also a founding member of the South Tyrolean Professional Association of Translators (LDÜ) - L'Unione Provinciale dei Traduttori (UPT) , which was founded in 1991 and was a member of the board until 1994.

Sandrini teaches translation technology, website translation and legal translation at the Institute for Translation Studies. His main research interests include:

From 1999 to 2001 he directed in collaboration with the European Academy of Bolzano , the project Interreg II program of the EU: measure to overcome the problems that DIES due to the different languages, administrative procedures and legal systems and emerge on the other side of the border . As part of the project, the intercultural legal terminology in Austria and Italy was examined more closely, differences between the two legal systems were shown and glossaries were created for different types of contract. From 2007 to 2009 he worked on the EU Tempus Project CD_JEP-40090-2005 Foreign Languages ​​in the Field of Law , in the framework of which a foreign language center for legal language was introduced at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb . Since 2007 he has been leading the tuxtrans project , a collection of free software for computer-aided translation based on the Linux operating system, which is also free .
