MacGyver - Hunt for the treasure of Atlantis (Original title: MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis ) is an American television film from the year 1994 and next to MacGyver - Terminus Hell one of two television films that adapt the US television series MacGyver .
action
While exploring the ruins of Thera in Greece five years ago, MacGyver and his friend, Professor Atticus, found a medallion with an inscription that includes Atlantis , a fabled ancient city that fell in a volcanic eruption.
In present-day London, Atticus' job is in jeopardy because he cannot convince with his Atlantis research. A few months later, Atticus and MacGyver discovered the Ark of Solon in an underground vault on the Balkan Peninsula where civil war and ethnic cleansing were taking place, which they believe contains the "torch of truth" with which Atlantis can be found . At that moment they are discovered by soldiers, arrested as spies and imprisoned. MacGyver can soon free himself and Atticus from the prison cell. Together they take back the ark, which is magnetic, before fleeing the military-guarded area in a car. Because it does not contain an engine, MacGyver lets the car drive with ignited combat missiles from the soldiers' ammunition depot.
Back in London, Professor Kelly Carson, granddaughter of Professor Simon Carson, helps them examine the ark. Simon Carson, like the Royal Academy of Archaeological Science, is convinced that Atlantis and the Torch of Truth are just a legend. After they have opened the drawer with the medallion and it turns out to be empty, Atticus is released from the Academy. Shortly afterwards, the ark without the medallion is stolen from the museum by the man Zavros, who then escapes across the Thames in a motorboat . Zavros is a Greek extremist believed to work for the art dealer Cyril Cleeve. Atticus hides from the police that he kept the medallion. Atticus hypothesizes that the Ark was brought into the Tower of Fear, which is an active volcano in Thera from which one can soon observe the planets when they are in an extremely rare conjunction . Atticus hopes to find out the secret of Atlantis there.
MacGyver, Kelly and Atticus follow a lead and travel to Exeter in the south of England. In the caves there they discover the torch of truth, which is a metal rod with a large gemstone. The torch is taken away from them by Cleeve and Zavros immediately. It turns out that Atticus betrayed MacGyver and Kelly and is actually working for Cleeve because of a lack of money. MacGyver and Kelly escape a trap designed for their murder, but Kelly falls into the hands of Cleeve shortly afterwards. MacGyver frees Kelly and Atticus, together they flee to Thera by small plane.
When they reach the volcano in Thera, they find Simon Carson seriously injured. MacGyver only now discovers, hidden in the drawer, a page from Solon's book, which is a metal plate and at the same time a page from Solon's book. You get to the inside of the volcano, which is a building from the distant past. There they find a model of the solar system that dates back to before Copernicus and the corpse of Zavros before they come back into the hands of Cleeve. The metal plate serves as a key to safely overcome the deadly trap that Zavros fell victim to. After passing through it, you will find the Temple of Times and the body of Solon, who died from ashes in a volcanic eruption. From there they watch how all the planets in the solar system come into line. At that moment the door of the temple opens. With the pages from the Book of Solon, belonging to an early form of the computer, and the Torch of Truth, you will find the treasure of Atlantis. Contrary to Cleeve's expectations, this is not gold, but paper rolls on which the knowledge of Atlantis is secured. After Cleeve died from a fall in boiling water, MacGyver freed themselves, Kelly and Atticus from the cave with an improvised cable car, leaving the papers behind.
Atticus is now working as a professor again.
