Sean Astin
Sean Astin (born February 25, 1971 in Santa Monica , California ) is an American actor , director , writer and film producer .
Life
His parents are actors Patty Duke and John Astin , who is not Astin's biological father. It was only at the age of 23 that Astin found out that his biological father was the newspaper publisher Michael Tell, to whom his mother had been married for a very short time in 1970. Astin graduated from UCLA with a degree in History and American Literature and Culture . In 1973 his half-brother Mackenzie Astin was born, who is also an actor.
Astin has been an actor since childhood. Through his mother, he got his first role in the television film Please don't hit me, Mum in 1981 at the age of ten . His leading role in The Goonies by Richard Donner with the participation of Steven Spielberg stands out from his early engagements . He also took on roles in The War of the Roses , Bulworth , Boy Soldiers and Kimberly . Astin was also seen in the lead role in the football saga Rudy . He was named Best Actor at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival for his performance in The Low Life .
Astin's global breakthrough came with the Lord of the Rings trilogy , in which he played the hobbit Samweis Gamgee . For this role he received several nominations and awards. In addition, like many of his fellow actors (including Elijah Wood , Orlando Bloom ), he had a tattoo on his ankle as a souvenir.
After the successful Ring trilogy, he was mainly seen in television productions and series such as 24 , Monk and Law & Order . He appeared alongside Adam Sandler in the film comedies 50 First Dates and Click . He wrote in his book There and back again. To Actor's Tale. about his time before and after The Lord of the Rings .
Astin is also a director and a member of the Directors Guild of America . Together with his wife, Astin made the Oscar- nominated short film Kangaroo Court in 1994 .
Astin is married and has three daughters, including Alexandra Louise, who plays Sam Gamgee's daughter in The Return of the King . He is a staunch vegetarian .
During the 2004 presidential election , Astin supported John Kerry's election campaign and gave the opening speech in Portland . He also supported the campaign of Senator Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea Clinton in 2008 .
