occupation

Borderland (translated as "border area" ) is a Mexican / American horror film with splatter -elements of the director and script writer Zev Berman from the year of 2007.

Berman's second directorial work is loosely based on the bloody cult of Adolfo de Jesús Constanzo , who made human sacrifices in a satanic ritual. Constanzo's supporters kidnapped the US student Mark Kilroy, whose brutal murder is the focus of the film.

action

The Mexican policeman Ulises and a colleague Zoilo investigate an abandoned house, which is obviously a scene of occult acts. The two find various body parts of sacrificed animals and humans. All of a sudden they are ambushed and Ulises has to watch as his younger partner is brutally tortured, mutilated and killed by the unscrupulous Gustavo, a fanatical sect member. Ulises himself is spared in order to inform law enforcement agencies of the incident.

Texas , a year later. The three prospective students Ed, Phil and Henry spontaneously travel to Mexico to have fun with cheap drugs and prostitutes in a small border town. Once there, everything goes according to plan. In a strip bar, the reserved Ed is hooking up with the attractive bartender Valeria. A day later, they jointly consume hallucinogenic mushrooms. In a drug frenzy, Phil falls into the clutches of sect members, including the two murderers Zoilos, who forcibly kidnap him. Phil is said to be executed in a bloody sacrificial ritual by the head of an occult drug trafficking ring, Santillan, in order to please some gods.

When Phil does not return, Ed and daredevil Henry contact the local authorities, who are however uncooperative. With the help of the attractive Valeria, the two Americans finally investigate the whereabouts of their companion on their own. When Henry himself is targeted by Gustavo and intimidated with a gun, the two vacationers want to give up their search for the time being. But at that moment the rundown ex-policeman Ulises joins them. The local knows the whereabouts of Phil. In addition to freeing the student, Ulises wants to prevent an upcoming ritual that is to be carried out in the evening - there is a full moon.

But before they can rush to Phil's help, Henry is brutally murdered by Gustavo and his captors. Ed, Valeria and Ulises finally make their way to a remote farm, the whereabouts of the missing person. Bloody fighting broke out at night. The ex-policeman shoots Santillan and escapes injured from the scene. A little later he succumbs to his injuries while Ed and Valeria are harassed by Santillian's men. Fighting follows again, Ed crosses his own borders and kills the aggressors with brute force.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the "nerve-wracking" horror film had "drastic borrowings from the ' Torture Porn ' genre and a latent racism."
