action

Scott ca n't really look forward to his high school graduation, because first his girlfriend Fiona breaks up with him - and then she and her “new” boyfriend Donny present the song Scotty doesn't know through which Scotty at the graduation party learns that his girlfriend cheated on him.

Unfortunately, he just lost it with his pretty German pen pal Mieke through a misunderstanding, because because of the American pronunciation, as Mike, he assumed she was a man. Since Mieke broke off contact and blocked his e-mail address, he decided to fly to Berlin with his friend Cooper .

But she initially only get a flight to London , where they are looking for alcohol hooligans of Manchester United meet. They can take them to Paris, where they meet twins Jenny and Jamie from their high school. On their trip to Berlin they pass through Amsterdam and because of a misunderstanding while hitchhiking through Bratislava .

You meet robot imitators and a pushy, apparently homosexual passenger from Italy . Cooper comes in search of a brothel in the hands of a mistress, while Jenny and Scott mistakenly assume Hash - brownies to eat. They also end up on a nudist beach without women and, after Jenny almost undresses, are followed by naked men. When they finally arrived in Berlin, they discover that Mieke has gone to the Vatican . So the journey continues.

Jamie can prove himself as a city guide on site. Cooper notices that Jenny's a real girl, and Scott eventually finds Mieke and throws her around her neck.

Back in America he is surprised and pleased to find that Mieke is his new roommate at college, due to a mix-up, as Mieke was again mistaken for a boy.

Production and cast notes

The Berlin scenes were filmed in Warnemünde . Other locations were Prague and London . The scenes on the beach were filmed in Rostock . The production cost of the film was about 25 million US dollars . In the US, $ 17.8 million was grossed.

Eurotrip contains several cameo appearances by well-known film actors. So has Matt Damon a cameo appearance as a rock singer at the beginning of the film. He sings the song Scotty doesn't know (a song about his relationship with Fiona that Scott didn't know about), which appears again and again in different variations in the film. Other short appearances include Vinnie Jones (who never played for Manchester United ) as a hooligan, Lucy Lawless as the dominatrix of an SM club, Jana Pallaske as a Dutch photo dealer, Dominic Raacke as a truck driver, Walter Sittler as the father of Mieke and the singing one David Hasselhoff in a dream sequence, and Jeffrey Tambor has a cameo as Scott's insensitive father.

Reviews

Roger Ebert consistently described the film as plagiarism , as he mostly used humorous means from the films American Pie - Like a Hot Apple Pie and Road Trip . He also criticized the more than conventional direction, the simply structured script and the permanently sexually oriented humor, which only underlines the simplicity of the entire film and its plot. He also wrote about Matt Damon, who plays a minor supporting role, that he was lucky that this small but devastating appearance had not ruined his career.

"The only remarkable thing is the ambitious soundtrack, which is not enough, however, to gain a trace of pleasure from the American self-persiflage and the absurd perspective on the supposedly pleasure-oriented drug paradise Europe."

“The film is entertaining and charming, but by no means should it be taken seriously. If you just want to have fun, you have the best chance of enjoying “Eurotrip”. Then you can better overlook the failed gags and many inconsistencies. "

“The teen comedy with lots of sex and drug gags is a mixture of“ Road Trip ”and the Eighties hit“ Help the Americans are coming ”. The funny odyssey from the producers of "Road Trip" may not feature big names in the leading roles, but it is peppered with successful cameos. "

Cut out scenes

In the original US version of Eurotrip there are two scenes that have been removed for the German version. In the first scene, Scott and Cooper visit Mieke's father in Berlin. While Scott and Mieke's father are talking, Mieke's younger stepbrother Heinrich can be seen in the background, who is drawing a Hitler mustache with a black felt-tip pen and then marching through the room at a goose-step and with a Hitler salute. However, only Cooper sees this, which irritates him very much. The second scene is where Cooper is being tortured at the Vandersexxx Club in Amsterdam. You can see the beginning and how it comes out, but the actual torture part has been cut out in the German version. The latter scene is included in the DVD version. The only version in Germany in which you could see the scene with Heinrich was the German theatrical version.

Trivia

  • Tibor, the Slovak who drives the troops from Bratislava to Berlin, drives a car that is seldom modeled after General Lee from Ein Duke comes alone .
  • Shortly before the group is taken by Tibor, Cooper flips through Jamie's travel guide. He says: "Bratislava, capital of Slovenia". Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia. However, this is a translation error, in the English original Bratislava is the capital of "Slovakia". It is also shown correctly on the card in the opening credits.
  • The song Scotty Doesn't Know is by the US band Lustra and not by Sum 41 as is often claimed .
  • During the torture scene at Club Vandersexxx, there is a reference to Die Hard . The two torturers are called Hans and Gruber - together these names result in the English name of the leader of the criminal gang in Die Hard (in German "Jack"). The Czech model Anetta Keys also appears as an extra in the scene .
  • The song that sounds when Scott and Cooper go to Paris with the Manchester United Hools is from The Business . It has the simple name England 5 - Germany 1 .
  • In the scene on the freeway in which the four get into the truck, the license plate of the truck can be seen. According to the license plate number, this truck comes from Ulm . Furthermore, the dialogue between the American teenagers and the driver does not make much sense in the German dubbing, since Scott incorrectly translates the German of the truck driver in the English original. However, both parties speak German in the German version and still misunderstand each other. There is also a mistake in the English version, because the driver's statement “Listen! If I should come anywhere near Berlin, yes, I will be arrested! In Berlin! ”Was subtitled with“ I also sexually assaulted a horse in Berlin. ”(“ I also sexually abused a horse in Berlin. ”).
  • Of the three e-mails in German that Scott reads during a train ride, two are identical and consist of incoherent cues from different German texts.
  • The word “together” was spelled “together” by mistake in one of Mieke's emails and in the dictionary that Scott looked up.
