Kristin Laura Kreuk (born December 30, 1982 in Vancouver ) is a Canadian actress and model , best known for her roles in the Canadian television series Edgemont and the American series Smallville .

Life

Childhood and youth

Kreuk's parents are landscape architects. Her father Peter Kreuk is of Dutch descent, the mother Deanna Che is from Indonesia , but originally from China . Her maternal grandmother is also a Jamaican Chinese. Kreuk has a younger sister named Justine who was born in 1986.

Kreuk already had plans for her future and wanted to study either ( forensic ) psychology , environmental engineering, or forensic medicine at Simon Fraser University when a casting officer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) called her high school in 2000 and asked for an exotic looking girl to play Laurel Yeung on the youth soap opera Edgemont . Kreuk, who - with the exception of school theater - had no acting experience, was suggested for the role by her theater teacher. To her own surprise, she was chosen.

Film and television career

After the first season of Edgemont was shot and she already had her own agent, Kreuk got the lead role as Snow White in the television movie Snow White: The Fairest of Them All . The film, in which Miranda Richardson also starred, was shot in Vancouver and first aired on ABC on March 17, 2002 .

After Snow White , Kreuks agent sent an application video to screenwriters Alfred Gough and Miles Millar , who were looking for people for their new series Smallville , which they produced for the US television station The WB .
