action

Former prosecutor Ray Breslin is now a sought-after security professional with his own company specializing in jail security vulnerability detection and prevention. His motivation for this is a criminal he hunted down as a public prosecutor and who murdered Breslin's family after his escape. As an undercover expert, Breslin is now imprisoned in maximum security prisons and then studies the inside of the building, the routine processes of the staff and the possibilities of getting help from inside or outside. He has written a book about his experiences that is considered a reference work in the industry .

His company receives a multi-million dollar contract from CIA agent Jessica Mayer to test a prototype device that is considered to be escape-proof. However, the location of the facility is secret in order to make outside help more difficult. Despite the known risks, his business partner Lester Clark pleads for the lucrative order. Breslin is then "kidnapped" and stunned under the pseudonym of a terrorist named Anthony Portos . When a fellow prisoner was killed on the transport, admission to Das Grab prison did not take place as expected and a tracking chip implanted in his upper arm was cut out to be on the safe side and the emergency code word did not work, Breslin sensed a trap. It turns out that Willard Hobbs, the director of the new facility, is teaming up with Clark, who wants to get rid of his partner.

Breslin is imprisoned as a prisoner in the grave . There he befriends a fellow prisoner named Emil Rottmayer. The prison director wants to get information about a criminal named Mannheim who he believes Rottmayer worked for him, so he keeps torturing Rottmayer. Breslin discovers that one could possibly get outside through a shaft near the isolation cells. When Rottmayer starts a diversionary maneuver, Breslin reaches the roof of the prison and discovers that they are on a huge cargo ship in the middle of the sea. He tries to come up with an escape plan, but as the staff's operations are constantly changing, the chances of an escape seem slim. He finds out that the prison was designed according to the suggestions in his book. During a phone call with Clark, Hobbs learns the true identity of Breslin and reveals to him that he knows her and will keep him here until the end of his life. Breslin then offers Hobbs to pretend to ask Rottmayer for information about Mannheim.

Meanwhile, Breslin's colleagues Ross and Hush become suspicious when the check for the order is frozen. They find out that Das Grab is not a state institution but is financed by a private profit organization.

The Arab fellow inmate Javed lets Hobbs use himself as an informant and is allowed to pray on deck in the evening as a reward. Here he can carry out measurements with a self-made sextant , which suggest the current location of the cargo ship off Morocco's coast. Breslin reminds prison doctor Dr. Kyrie takes his Hippocratic oath to help people and can persuade him to help. As a distraction, a riot is staged in another cell block, to which Hobbs has almost all the guards withdraw. This clears the path in the main room and Breslin, Rottmayer and Javed can overwhelm the remaining guards and escape into the engine room. In the meantime, Dr. Kyrie sent a cry for help to Rottmayer's friends in Casablanca , who are now flying in by helicopter. The already seriously wounded Javed is shot by Hobbs while Rottmayer reaches the deck after Breslin was able to switch off the power supply and thus the locks on the locks. Breslin's access to the deck is cut off, but through a drain, which is flushed when the power is restored, he gets into the open sea and is picked up by Rottmayer's helicopter. Hobbs shoots the helicopter, but when Breslin blows up barrels on deck, the director is killed in the explosion.

Landing on Morocco's coast, it turns out that Rottmayer himself is Mannheim and that CIA agent Jessica Mayer is his daughter. Breslin had staged the infiltration to find and free her father. Breslin's colleague Ross has now made sure that the traitor Clark is kidnapped and locked up on a cargo ship himself.

Reviews

The film received mixed reviews. The film review portal Rotten Tomatoes gives the film 50% positive reviews and it has a Metascore of 49 out of 100 on Metacritic .

"The first big meeting of the action heroes Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger is just like the first big meeting of Robert De Niro and Al Pacino (who only had a short scene together in Heat ): disappointing!"

- Filmstarts .de

"The poorly thought-out action thriller primarily functions as a star vehicle for its two genre icons and tries to make them as cool as possible - negating their age."

"Clever action thriller with two old warriors who twitch their muscles self-deprecatingly."

synchronization

The German synchronization was for a dialogue book and the dialogue director of Björn Schalla on behalf of the FFS Film & TV sync GmbH , Berlin. Since Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone have both been voiced by Thomas Danneberg for many years , Ralph Schicha took over the dubbing of Schwarzenegger. In a radio interview, Danneberg expressed his displeasure that he was not allowed to speak to both actors, especially since, according to his statement, this was expressly requested by both. In the German cinema trailer, Schwarzenegger was still spoken of by Danneberg.
