Caitriona Balfe (born October 4, 1979 in Dublin ) is an Irish model and actress .

Life

Balfe was born in Dublin and grew up in a family of seven in Tydavnet, near Monaghan . She was discovered by an agent collecting donations in front of a local supermarket and started her modeling career. Between 2000 and 2008, Balfe was seen at around 200 fashion shows in New York, Milan and Paris, including for the fashion houses Chanel , Givenchy , Gucci , Louis Vuitton and Versace . She was also the advertising face of Calvin Klein , H&M and Roberto Cavalli . In 2010 she made her debut as a minor supporting role actress in JJ Abrams ' science fiction film Super 8 . Since 2014 she has been part of the cast of the television series Outlander, based on the Highland saga by Diana Gabaldon , as Claire Randall , and in 2016 she appeared alongside Julia Roberts and George Clooney in Jodie Foster's Money Monster .
