Diana Gabaldon
Diana Gabaldon (born January 11, 1952 in Williams , Arizona ) is an American author. She was best known for the novel series Highland Saga . This is the basis for the television series Outlander by Ronald D. Moore .
Life
Diana Gabaldon grew up in Flagstaff, Arizona and studied zoology at Northern Arizona University . She later moved to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego , where she received a Master of Science degree in deep-sea biology. She has been appointed honorary professor in quantitative behavioral ecology . At the same time Gabaldon worked as a freelance writer, including for Byte . She also founded the scientific journal Science Software Quarterly , which tests software for the IBM personal computer and Apple Macintosh . In the mid-1980s Diana Gabaldon was interested in the World Wide Web and became a member of a discussion forum on literature at CompuServe , where she also published parts of her first novel Outlander in 1987 .
Outlander (German fire and stone ) was officially released in 1991, followed by Dragonfly in Amber and Voyager . The latter novel immediately reached the status of a New York Times - Bestsellers . All works are part of the so-called Highland saga , in which the British nurse Claire is transported into the 18th century. She falls in love with the Highlander Jamie and experiences numerous historical events, such as the Second Jacobite Rising . A total of eight volumes have appeared in the series to date, most recently A Shadow of Treason and Love in 2014. Diana Gabaldon usually publishes a new volume of the Highland saga every four to five years. In addition, she started another series with the so-called Lord John Saga , at the center of which is a soldier of the British Army , who already appeared as a minor character in the Highland novels.
2006 Gabaldon received the literary prize Quill Book Award in the category Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror for A Breath of Snow and Ashes (German A Breath of Snow and Ashes ). In addition, Down These Strange Streets was nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award 2012 for best short story . With A Shadow of Treason and Love , she won the LovelyBooks Readers Award in the Historical Novel category in 2014 .
Diana Gabaldon lives with her husband in Scottsdale , Arizona and has three grown children.
