The main character of the series is the eponymous knight Galavant, who wants to free his lover Madalena from the clutches of King Richard. However, Madalena does not want to give up her new position as queen with all the wealth and sends Galavant back with a broken heart.
Season one begins with Princess Isabella of Valencia pleading with Galavant to free her kingdom from the clutches of Queen Madalena and King Richard.
