action
Long Beach, California : Jeremy Coleman and his colleagues from the Fire Department are given a box of 35-year-old scotch after a successful mission. Before they head home to have a scotch together, Jeremy enters a grocery store to buy snacks. There he witnessed how Hagan, a gang boss of the Aryan Brotherhood , first shot the son of the shop owner and then the shop owner himself because he was not willing to let him have the business premises. Before Hagan's accomplices can kill Jeremy, he escapes.
Jeremy confides in Police Detective Mike Cella, who lost his former police partner in the fight against Hagan. Through him he learns of Hagan's latest criminal activities and decides to take Hagan to prison. In fact, Hagan is arrested shortly afterwards and can be identified by Jeremy in a comparison. However, when Hagan gives Jeremy's name, address and social security number during the confrontation in order to intimidate the witness who incriminates him, it is decided to include Jeremy in the witness protection program and give him a new identity as Jeremy Douglas.
Jeremy has a hard time leaving his firefighter career and friends behind. The pain is alleviated, however, by the blossoming romance between him and Deputy United States Marshal Talia Durham, assigned to protect him prior to Hagan's criminal proceedings.
From prison, Hagan gives orders to kill Jeremy. Talia is seriously injured in an attempted assassination attempt on Jeremy and is brought to safety by Jeremy. Jeremy then swears revenge. When Hagan, who has meanwhile been released from prison, calls him and threatens him to kill anyone who means something to him, Jeremy for his part decides to forestall Hagan and kill the gang boss. As a result, Jeremy flees from his witness protection program and makes his way back to Long Beach. There he went to the street gang of the Eastside Crips , who initially reluctantly supported him in his revenge, but ultimately gave him weapons and ammunition.
Jeremy then ambushes Hagan's men to kill them one by one. He forces his lawyer to reveal Hagan's habits to him. He then ambushed Hagan in an abandoned industrial building that he had prepared with fire accelerators. When Hagan and his followers have entered the building, he sets it on fire, not knowing that Talia is on the upper floors of the building, also under Hagan's control. Jeremy puts on the fire brigade protective clothing previously given to him by one of his former work colleagues and sets off into the flames to save Talia. Hagan lies in wait for him in the flames, whom Jeremy and Talia can kill. Jeremy leads Talia safely out of the burning building.
Mike Cella closes the case after the entire building burns down with no usable trace.

reception
Robert Cherkowski from Filmstarts is of the opinion that the film is a “bland thriller” that “adheres meticulously to the much-used patterns of the police film” and “consistently cranks down the well-known lyre”, which is why he feels it “everywhere Endings of passion, independence and flavor are missing ”. The “staging is certainly useful, but that's not enough to make the clichéd arcs and the dialogues made up of genre platitudes interesting”. The script is weak and gives the main actors little chance to “shine”, although Josh Duhamel knows how to convince “in the role of the tough normal guy with his heart in the right place”. Rosario Dawson, on the other hand, is "sold below value". Bruce Willis completes "little more than a guest appearance", as well as "producer and occasional actor 50 Cent", who can be seen in a cameo as a gang leader. Vincent D'Onofrio plays “the best figure among the actors, but his role is too colorless to leave a lasting impression”. So "in the end the entire film is in no way a remarkable routine product", but "a mediocre action monotony with a few familiar faces". Cherkowski awarded two out of five possible points.
The film service concluded that the film was a "[hard] thriller, with a very impressive cast on the part of the villains, which otherwise only has clichés and unbelievable features to offer."
The film's dialogues are clichéd and the action scenes use close-ups of projectiles that pierce skulls, judged Henry Barnes of the Guardian . Barnes awarded one of five possible points.
