Lions Gate Entertainment is listed on the New York and Toronto Stock Exchanges under the symbol LGF . Since 2004, Lions Gate Entertainment has been the most commercially successful film and television distribution company outside the United States . The company's name comes from the Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver , Canada.

In 2003, LGF took over competitor Artisan Entertainment , known from the film Blair Witch Project (1999). In 2012, Summit Entertainment was taken over .
