The Sportschau Club is an entertainment football program on the public television broadcaster Das Erste . Since September 11, 2012, it has been broadcast as the successor to Waldemar Hartmann's program Waldis Club following football broadcasts on Das Erste. After three first talk shows with various presenters of the sports show , Alexander Bommes took over the moderation of the redesigned show in early 2013. He is supported by Julia Scharf , meanwhile presenter of the Sportschau am Sonntag, and by Arnd Zeigler , on WDR with the showZeigler's wonderful world of football .

Concept and background

The Sportschau Club is always broadcast following major ARD football broadcasts, i.e. international matches, Bundesliga matches or DFB Cup matches . Moderator Alexander Bommes will discuss the game and their life story with various guests. Arnd Zeigler provides curious background stories from the past, and Julia Scharf conducts further interviews. The program is broadcast live from the “underground bar” in the RevuePalast Ruhr in Herten (formerly Ewald colliery ).

The show is produced by the Cologne-based production company On Air TV Productions . The Cologne-based company has been responsible since 2012 and has also produced the Sportschau Club's individual programs, which were broadcast in Vienna, Berlin and Amsterdam.

broadcasts

The first transitional edition on September 11, 2012 was all about the World Cup qualifier between the German national team and the Austrian selection. That evening, the broadcast came from a glass studio in the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna. The moderator of the first program was Matthias Opdenhövel , his guests that late evening were Oliver Bierhoff , Franz Wohlfahrt and Ralf Rangnick .

On October 16, 2012 Gerhard Delling took over the moderation for one issue. On the evening of the spectacular 4: 4 draw in the World Cup qualifier against Sweden, the moderator discussed this game with his guests Giovane Élber , Fredi Bobic and Mirko Slomka .

Reinhold Beckmann led the audience and his guests Thomas Helmer , Thomas Berthold , Frank Verlaat and Youri Mulder live from Amsterdam through the Sportschau Club on November 14, 2012 .

On February 6, 2013, Alexander Bommes took over the moderation for the first time following the test match between the German national team and France, and the "Studio" celebrated its premiere in the "Underground Bar" in the Revuepalast Ruhr in Herten. Sebastian Kehl and Christoph Metzelder were guests .

The broadcast on February 27, 2013 followed seamlessly from the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. After the FC Bayern Munich game against Borussia Dortmund , Alexander Bommes welcomed André Schürrle and Lewis Holtby , who previously started their successful careers at FSV Mainz . Today Schürrle plays for Borussia Dortmund, and Lewis Holtby for Hamburger SV .

The sixth edition on March 26, 2013 focused on the one hand on the World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan, on the other hand the guests around Norbert Meier , Otto Addo and Thomas Meggle gave insights into the many facets of the coaching profession. The experienced trainer and the two newcomers to the industry spoke to Alexander Bommes about the DFB's trainer training today. In addition, the audience got to see Norbert Meier's motivational speech, as well as a portrait of the extraordinary coach of SC 1920 Oberhausen, Thorsten Möllmann.

On June 1, 2013, the Sportschau Club broadcast directly from Berlin following the DFB Cup final . Giovane Élber and Markus Babbel were guests, and Philipp Lahm , David Alaba , Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Müller from FC Bayern Munich also found their way into the “changing room” after winning the final against VfB Stuttgart with the trophy. In addition, George Alaba, father of Bavaria's young hopeful, was able to tell a few anecdotes about his son.

The eighth edition of the Sportschau Club on August 9, 2013 focused on the Bundesliga start of the 2013/2014 season , but also, in discussion with Oliver Kreuzer ( HSV ) and Christian Heidel (Mainz 05), the profession of football manager following the opening game of FC Bayern Munich against Borussia Mönchengladbach .

Following the game of the German national team against the Faroe Islands on September 10, 2013, İlkay Gündoğan , his “discoverer” Michael Oenning and Steffen Freund found their way to the underground bar in Herten. Other topics besides the previous qualifying game were the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the position of the “six” in midfield .

After reaching the final round of the 2014 World Cup by beating Ireland on October 11, 2013, the Sportschau Club broadcast again from Herten. Horst Hrubesch (Caoch of the U21 national team ), with whom Alexander Bommes debated the youngsters in German football and his career, was the guest that evening . His old roofer buddy Rainer Aschmoneit surprised the trainer on the show.

The eleventh edition of the Sportschau Club took place following the 1-0 victory of the German national team in the classic football against England. The guest was Andreas Möller , who scored the last decisive goal on penalties in the 1996 semi-final against England. Together with Alexander Bommes, Andreas Möller presented his DFB dream team for the World Cup in Brazil. Another topic was the World Cup playoffs. In particular, the qualification of the Equipe Tricolore and the tragic elimination of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the superstardual against Cristiano Ronaldo.

As part of the Cup game FC Augsburg against Bayern Munich was Jürgen Klopp guest in the 12th round of the Sportschau clubs. Most of the conversation dealt with "Kloppo's" work. The current form of BVB, the misery of injuries, possible newcomers and the duel with FC Bayern that has been going on for years were just as much a topic as Klopp's criticism of the media, his motivational speeches and answering questions that fans could ask via social networks. Finally, the Borussia Dortmund coach was surprised with a video in which Julia Scharf talked about him and his past with two friends of the football teacher.

In the new year 2014, Alexander Bommes and his co-moderators welcomed the world footballer Lothar Matthäus to the Sportschau Club. After the start of the second half of the season between FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach - Matthäus had played for both clubs - the Sportschau Club devoted itself to FC Bayern Munich, transfer rumors and the national team.

The winning teams of the DFB Cup round on February 12, 2014 moved into the semi-finals, the Sportschau Club moved into its 14th edition after the game. With Horst Heldt , sports director of FC Schalke 04 and Max Eberl , sports director of Borussia Mönchengladbach , they not only talked about the two managers' long-term acquaintance. In the conversation with Alexander Bommes, one dealt with the aspects of the transfer policy of both clubs, the tradition behind the clubs and the activities of the two managers outside of football.

Three weeks before the Revier derby both a Schalke player with Dennis Aogo and a Borussia player with Neven Subotić were guests at the 15th edition of the Sportschau Club. However, it was not the existing rivalry between the two clubs that was discussed, but rather the personal careers of the two footballers. So they took a look at Aogo's Freiburg past, surprised Subotic with a video message from his American discoverer and talked about the "Neven Subotić Foundation".

At the 16th edition of the Sportschau Club following the DFB Cup semi-final between FC Bayern Munich and 1. FC Kaiserslautern, the managers Jörg Schmatke ( 1. FC Cologne ) and Marc Arnold ( Eintracht Braunschweig ) did the honors. Alexander Bommes spoke to the two of them about what the clubs have in common, the clubs' prospects and their active playing careers. Jörg Schmadtke was surprised with a video of his first TV appearance almost 30 years ago. Julia Scharf also spoke to Marc Arnold's parents, who were also guests in the underground bar in Herten.
