Frank Verlaat (born March 5, 1968 in Haarlem ) is a former Dutch football player.

Career

Verlaat began his career as a youth player at DYT Haarlem . From his first club Ajax Amsterdam from he moved to Lausanne-Sports in the Swiss National League A . From Switzerland he went to France to join AJ Auxerre . From there he moved to VfB Stuttgart in the German Bundesliga in 1995 . His greatest successes with Stuttgart were winning the DFB Cup in 1997 and reaching the final in the 1998 European Cup Winners' Cup, which his team lost 1-0 to Chelsea . As early as 1987 he had won the Cup Winners' Cup with Ajax Amsterdam by beating 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig 1-0 in the final .

After four years in Germany , Verlaat was again under contract with Ajax Amsterdam for one season before moving back to the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen in 2000 . There he became an integral part of the defense.

In 2003 he received an offer from Frank Stronach , which took him to Austria for FK Austria Wien . After a year it was loaned to SK Sturm Graz and later bought. At the end of the 2006/07 season , Verlaat ended his active football career after 87 league games and three goals for the Graz team . He played his last professional game on May 17, 2007 in a 1-0 home win in the last Graz derby .

Verlaat is married and has two children, including Jesper Verlaat .
