Career

Verlaat, who can be deployed in both defensive midfield and central defense, began his career in Bremen at FC Oberneuland before his father moved to Austria in 2003. Then Jesper played for SK Sturm Graz and the youth academy of FC Admira Wacker Mödling . When his parents moved to Portugal in the Algarve in 2007 , Verlaat played for various Portuguese teams until 2012. He moved to SV Werder Bremen in the summer of 2012 after a trial session, for whom he played from the U-17.

Verlaat made his debut for Werder's U-23 team on March 13, 2015 when he came on for Onur Capin shortly before the end of the game against TSV Havelse . In the summer he moved up firmly to the U-23, which had meanwhile been promoted to the 3rd division . Verlaat made his debut in this division on November 1, 2015 (15th matchday), when he came into the game in the 29th minute in the 3-2 home win against Chemnitzer FC ; since then he has been a regular player. He scored his first goal for Werders U-23 on November 7, 2015 in the 1: 2 away defeat against Fortuna Köln . For the 2017/18 season, Verlaat moved up to the squad of the first team, but continued to play in the second team.

For the 2018/19 season, Verlaat moved to SV Sandhausen on a free transfer . On July 15, 2020, he signed a contract with third division club SV Waldhof Mannheim .
