Markus Scholz (born May 17, 1988 in Iserlohn ) is a German soccer goalkeeper who has been under contract with SV Waldhof Mannheim since 2015 .

Career

Scholz started playing football at SF Oestrich-Iserlohn . For the 2007/08 season he made the leap to the men's division and completed 32 competitive games in the NRW League for his home club in the following two seasons . In summer 2009 Scholz moved to VfL Bochum , where he guarded the goal of the second team in the Regionalliga West for the next two and a half years . Meanwhile too old for the U-23 squad, he moved up to the professional squad at the beginning of 2012, but could not prevail against the regular goalkeeper Andreas Luthe and his substitute Michael Esser .

After the negotiations for a professional contract in Bochum had failed, Scholz moved to Dynamo Dresden for the 2012/13 season on a free transfer. Here, too, he was initially only planned as the third goalkeeper behind regular goalkeeper Benjamin Kirsten and his substitutes Florian Fromlowitz and Nico-Stéphàno Pellatz and was temporarily used for the second team in the NOFV-Oberliga Süd . After the 2013/14 winter break, however, head coach Olaf Janßen made him the new number one in the Dynamo goal, whereupon Scholz made his professional debut in the 2nd Bundesliga on February 8, 2014 in a 0-0 draw in the away game against 1. FC Union Berlin gave. He played a total of six second division games in the 2013/14 season. In the following season he no longer played for the 1st team.

For the 2015/16 season, Scholz moved to the regional league team SV Waldhof Mannheim , where he initially received a one-year contract that was extended by two years in April 2016. In March 2018, he extended his contract with Waldhof Mannheim again for two years, until June 30, 2020. Scholz played with the Waldhof for three years in a row for promotion to the third division , which finally succeeded in the 2019/2020 season . With that, Scholz returned to professional football in 2019. In October 2019, the Waldhöfer extended the contract with Markus Scholz early for another year until June 30, 2021.
