History of the company

The starting point is the Heider Anzeiger founded by Andreas Ebel in Heide in 1869 , which was initially produced with two issues per week and 500 copies each in the company's own print shop. After rapid development, his son Rudolf Ebel modernized the print shop in 1889 with a high-speed press. After his death in 1897, the Heider Anzeiger had to be taken over by a rescue company in 1902 , which soon produced a daily circulation of 5,000 copies on a modern rotary press.

In 1913, the company moved to its current location at Wulf-Isebrand-Platz, where extensive property areas have been purchased over the decades. After the death of Friedrich Johnsen in 1929, who had considerably expanded the circulation of the newspaper and the range of products offered by the printing company, his son-in-law Max Boyens, the grandfather of the current managing directors, took over management of the company. Among other things, in 1935 he took over the Dithmarscher Landeszeitung, which had been published in Meldorf until then, and after the interim newspaper ban by the Allies after the Second World War in 1949, he began production under this newspaper title, to which the old title "Heider Anzeiger" was subordinated. This was followed by the takeover of the titles Brunsbütteler Zeitung in 1962, Wesselburener Marschbote in 1960 and Büsumer Nachrichten in 1971.

This went hand in hand with extensive expansion of the company in the book and telephone directory as well as in the area of bookstores. With the takeover of management by Uwe Boyens in 1975, the new era of offset printing technology began and the expansion into one of the most important industrial companies in the region, which its greatest expansion in 1996/97 with the construction of a new, contemporary newspaper printing plant in the industrial area of Weddingstedt reached at the gates of the city of Heide.

At the beginning of 2004, the management passed to Inken and Sönke Boyens, who were able to expand the newspaper publisher with the titles Dithmarscher Rundschau, Brunsbütteler Rundschau, Marner Zeitung and Dithmarscher Kurier . The various corporate divisions were expanded in the following years and divided into a structure of subsidiaries, the parent company of which is Boyens Medienholding. With its own holding company, the company has numerous investments in the media sector, including in Radio Schleswig-Holstein , the Mecklenburg Blitz-Verlag, an advertising agency in Neubrandenburg, the medienholding nord: mh: in Flensburg, the Verlag für Telekommunikation Nord in Rostock and numerous investments in Telecommunications directory company and at the German Press Agency .
