The Austrian championship 2006/07 started on July 18th. The last round took place on May 20th. During this period, 36 rounds were played and the champions of the top division, the T-Mobile Bundesliga, were chosen. Twelve teams in the Red Zac League are fighting for promotion to the T-Mobile Bundesliga. In the third highest division, the regional leagues (middle, east, west), 16 teams each played.
First performance level - Bundesliga
Mode and general
The Bundesliga was played with 10 teams, each of which met four times during the entire season. Red Bull Salzburg secured their fourth championship title with a gap of 19 points. The season was clearly overshadowed by the bankruptcies of the two Graz clubs. The SK Sturm as well as the GAK were penalized by the Bundesliga during the current season (Sturm 13, GAK 28), on the basis of which the GAK was already determined prematurely as relegated to the First League. In purely sporting terms, Wacker Tirol would have been relegated. When the GAK did not get a license for the 2nd level, the club had to compete in an amateur class (Regionalliga Mitte) for the first time after 1951.
In the following season, champions Red Bull Salzburg will play in the second qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League , runners-up Ried, cup winners Austria and SV Mattersburg will play in qualifying for the UEFA Cup . Rapid signed up for the games in the UI Cup .

Second performance level - First League
Mode and general
Before this season there was an increase in the second division, the "Red Zac First League", from ten to twelve teams. The champion was determined in 33 rounds. All clubs met three times, which meant that six teams were allowed to play one more home game. This right went to the six best teams of the previous year.
The champions became LASK , which played an impressive season with a 13-point lead over pursuers SC Schwanenstadt . The relegation battle was extremely exciting, in which four clubs were involved up to the last round. Admira Wacker Mödling , as well as the GAK , were refused the license for the 2007/08 game year, which meant that Kapfenberg, as a beneficiary, was still entitled to play for the next season.
