Andreas Ivanschitz [ ˈi.van.ʃɪt͡s ] (born October 15, 1983 in Eisenstadt , Burgenland ) is a former Austrian football player . From 2003 to 2009 he was the captain of the Austrian national team with which he took part in the 2008 European Championship .
Career
society
Youth in Baumgarten and Vienna
Ivanschitz began his sporting career at the football club in his native Baumgarten . In February 1998, at the age of 14, he moved to the youth department of SK Rapid Vienna . At the age of 16 he was the youngest player to have played a competitive game in the Rapid combat team (October 26, 1999 in the Cup against Ranshofen ). He made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga on May 20, 2000 in a game against SV Austria Salzburg . He scored his first Bundesliga goal on December 2, 2000 in a 5-0 win against SC Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz . In 2000 he was accepted into the professional squad. In 2005 Ivanschitz was Austrian champion with Rapid.
Red Bull Salzburg
On January 9 , 2006, Ivanschitz moved to Red Bull Salzburg , but was unable to assert himself in the international squad of the coaching team Giovanni Trapattoni and Lothar Matthäus . The move and the promise he made shortly before not to move within Austria brought him into disrepute among the Rapid fans.
Panathinaikos Athens
On August 12, 2006 he was awarded for one year to the Greek first division club Panathinaikos Athens . In April 2007 Panathinaikos extended Ivanschitz's contract to June 30, 2008. In July 2009, both clubs agreed to sell the national player.
1. FSV Mainz 05
On July 18, 2009, he left Athens and moved to the German Bundesliga for 1. FSV Mainz 05 , where he signed a loan contract for two years. This included a purchase option with which Ivanschitz could be tied to the club until 2013. He played his first competitive game on July 31, 2009 in the first round of the 2009/10 DFB Cup . There, however, the Mainz team was defeated by the fourth-class VfB Lübeck .
In his first two league games he gave one assist each. On the third matchday on August 22, 2009, he scored his first goal in the Mainz dress. In doing so, he helped the club to its first victory over Bayern Munich . On the sixth day of the game he managed to jump to number one on the league's scorer list, which he only gave up on the 13th day of the game. In his first eleven games he scored six goals and gave as many assists. After that, his shape deteriorated, which was due to the flu. On April 3, 2010 he got the fastest dismissal in the Bundesliga after 188 seconds at the game in Nuremberg.
In the 2010/11 season , Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel relied on a very strong rotation. Ivanschitz made 20 appearances, but only played three times over the full time. Still, he was an important part of the team. On January 31, 2011, 1. FSV Mainz 05 finally bought it from Panathinaikos Athens. Ivanschitz, whose loan contract would have expired in June 2011, signed a follow-up contract until June 30, 2013. In the end, he scored three goals and finished fifth with his club. In 2011/12 he also rarely played through in his 26 appearances, but scored six goals. In the course of the second half of the 2012/13 season, Mainz 05 announced that it would not extend its contract, which ended at the end of the season.
Levant UD
For the 2013/14 season Ivanschitz moved to the Spanish Primera División for Levante UD . In the third game of the season against Rayo Vallecano he scored his first competitive goal for his new club in the 93rd minute with the winning goal to make it 2-1. After a good first season, things didn't go as planned for Ivanschitz due to multiple coach changes and injuries. Most recently he only sat in the stands under coach Lucas Alcaraz and was no longer considered. For Levante he completed 49 league games in which he scored four goals. In June 2015, he agreed with the association to prematurely terminate his contract, which ran until June 30, 2016. From a sporting point of view, however, Ivanschitz did not regret his time in Spain:
“A broader horizon. Nobody takes away from you that you played against Messi or Ronaldo . Especially in the first season it went perfectly. "
Due to his few games and the great competition in midfield, Ivanschitz was only on the call list for the Austrian national soccer team at the end of his time in Spain.
Seattle Sounders
In the summer of 2015 Ivanschitz was signed by the US MLS team Seattle Sounders . On December 10, 2016, he won the final with his team and became MLS champion with him . The final ended goalless. Andreas Ivanschitz also scored a goal on penalties.
Viktoria Pilsen, retired
In January 2017 Ivanschitz moved to the Czech first division club Viktoria Pilsen , with whom he signed a contract with a term of one and a half years. With the team he became Czech champion in 2018 . After 13 league games and one appearance in a group game in the 2017/18 Europa League , his contract expired in summer 2018.
He ended his career as a footballer in early November 2018.
National team
Ivanschitz made his debut in the Austrian national team on March 26, 2003 against Greece under the then team boss Hans Krankl . In the European Championship qualifier against the Czech Republic on October 11, 2003, he wore the captain's bow for the first time, making him the youngest ÖFB national team captain since the end of the war at 19 years and 361 days. Since he had not been called up by team manager Dietmar Constantini for the World Cup qualifier against Romania , Emanuel Pogatetz became the new team captain. After two and a half years, Ivanschitz made his comeback against Azerbaijan on October 7, 2011 , and also scored a goal in his 50th game for the national team. Ivanschitz played his last of a total of 69 international matches on June 3, 2014 in the 2-1 victory of the Austrian national team in the friendly against the Czech Republic in Olomouc .
