APA footballer election

The "APA" -Fußballerwahl is one of the Austria Press Agency launched and organized election, in which the player of the year by Austria are elected. Only the coaches / sports directors of the Austrian Bundesliga clubs who nominate three players are allowed to vote . The player who receives the most points as a result will receive this award at the end of the season. The first election of this kind was held in 1984, with Herbert Prohaska winning . Since then, the APA footballer poll has been held annually.

The election of the footballer of the year has been carried out with the coaches of the ÖFB Women's Bundesliga since 2018 .

The record holder of the title is David Alaba with eight titles, followed by Ivica Vastić with four and Herbert Prohaska with three. At the clubs, FK Austria Wien and SK Rapid Wien lead the standings with eight winners ahead of FC Bayern Munich , for whom Alaba played in seven of its victories.
