The ASK Baumgarten is an Austrian football club from the town of Baumgarten in Burgenland , the long time in the Regional League East played. After the club was relegated to the Burgenland regional league again in the 2011/12 season , the fighting team was discontinued in July 2014 for economic reasons. After the women's team had already been dissolved at the end of 2013, the club is currently only active with play communities in the offspring, whereby the activities take place at the partner clubs, mainly in Draßburg.

founding

The first permanent soccer team was formed in the small Burgenland community in 1935. Until a sports field was built, the team played their friendly matches against clubs from the neighborhood on simple meadows. The provisional management of the club was incumbent on Messrs Franz Ugrinovich, Stefan Bauhofer, Franz Kovacsich and Konrad Kovacsich. With the completion of its own sports field in 1938, the population's interest in football increased and so from 1941 the village team took part in an unofficial championship with the neighboring communities. In 1945, under the leadership of Ludwig Ivanschitz, Stefan Bauhofer and Karl Hombauer, the club was registered with the authorities as the Baumgarten football club and thus founded under association law.

history

The first years in the lower grades

In 1946 FC Baumgarten got into the championship and played in the last class with moderate success until the 1949/50 season (2nd class middle, 2nd class B, 2nd class B middle). After a serious club crisis in 1950, FC Baumgarten became ASK Baumgarten . Already in the 1950/51 season the club celebrated the championship title of the 2nd class and was able to advance to the next higher level (1st class B).

After turmoil during a championship game against Pöttsching , which ended in a game abandonment, the Baumgartner had to accept a court suspension in 1959 and play their remaining home games in Draßburg . Due to this fact, the club stopped its game operations for a year and only returned to the championship of the 1st class middle again in 1961. In 1962, the ASK took first place and was promoted to the 2nd division north for the first time. In the following year Baumgarten still paid apprenticeship fees in the 2nd division north and immediately relegated, but returned to the 2nd division just one season later.

Promotion to the regional league

In the first few years in the second division north, Baumgarten came up with different placements, sometimes in the front, sometimes in the back ranks. The village club achieved its greatest success up to then under coach Georg Pichler with the title win and promotion to the Burgenland State League , the later Burgenland League, in the game year 1971/72. By the time operations were shut down, ASK Baumgarten was able to establish itself in the highest league of the Burgenland Football Association .

After five championship rounds, the Baumgartner surprisingly took the lead in the standings. Due to a rampant foot-and-mouth disease , the championship had to be temporarily interrupted. After the resumption of the ASK was no longer able to follow up on the previous performances, but reached fourth place in its first national league season. In the next few years Baumgarten only achieved placements in the lower third of the table. In 1979 the team won the autumn championship title, but the club's board did not want to risk the financial risk of promotion to the regional league at that time. The Baumgartner therefore played in important games "without the last bite" and finally settled in third place. In the following year, the club officials decided to let the team play for the championship title, as this no longer required promotion from this season on. In the final account, however, the ASK Baumgarten only took second place behind SV Oberwart . This was followed by three years of relegation battle before the club under coach Hermann Krenn was able to consolidate its services again and in the 1985/86 season achieved promotion to the Regionalliga Ost for the first time.

Pendulum years between national and regional league

The premier in the regional league ended for Baumgarten with immediate relegation to the regional league, which in 1987/88, as runner-up behind Güssinger SV, could immediately leave for the third level. In 1989 Baumgarten placed twelfth in the regional league and was thus relegated for the first time. In the same year, the ASK played in front of 2500 spectators in the ÖFB-Pokal , but was eliminated against the Bundesliga club FK Austria Wien with 1: 4 without a chance. In 1996 the Burgenlanders surprisingly succeeded in the first round of the ÖFB Cup against FCN St. Pölten , but failed in the second round with 1: 5 at the Grazer AK . Since the first promotion to the regional league, Baumgarten commuted between the third and fourth level at several years' intervals, although the club was able to stay in the league for seven years before relegation (2002).

Altogether, the Baumgartner have played 18 seasons in the regional league and 12 years in the third-class Regionalliga Ost since 1973. The high point of the club's history was in the 1999/2000 season with the runner-up title in the regional league behind SV Mattersburg, which is now in the Bundesliga . After this great success, the club had to direct its main financial focus on rebuilding the burned down sports facility, which suffered from sporting success, which ultimately led to relegation to the national league in 2002. After two second places in the last few years , the promotion was successful with the championship title in the 2005/06 season , which the team secured after a failed start into the autumn season, especially through very good performances in the spring championship. In the second regional league season, however, relegation followed again in 2008. In the 2008/09 season, the club became champions of the Burgenland League and thus rose directly back to the regional league. After the club had only finished 16th and last place in the Regionalliga Ost in the 2010/11 season, he was relegated again and played in the Burgenland League until the company was closed.
