The Austrian Football Championship 1974/75 was organized by the Austrian Football Association . The single-track national league served as the foundation for the Bundesliga . The third level was the Regionalliga Ost ( Vienna , Lower Austria , Burgenland ) and the regional leagues of Salzburg , Tyrol , Vorarlberg , Carinthia , Upper Austria and Styria .

First performance level - Bundesliga

General

The championship in the Bundesliga was contested with 10 teams, each of which met four times during the entire season. The syndicate between Wattens and Wacker Innsbruck was able to become Austrian football champions for the third time ; for Wacker it was already the fourth title. As an Austrian champion you could also qualify for the 1976 European Cup , where the syndicate was eliminated in the first round. Cup finalist Sturm Graz was allowed to take part in the 1976 European Cup , where the team reached the quarter-finals. Last year's champions SK VÖEST Linz and SK Rapid represented Austrian football in the 1976 UEFA Cup ; Both failed in round 1.

The last place in the championship had to relegate with SC Eisenstadt. He was replaced with the Grazer AK by the champions of the second-rate national league in the coming season.

draw

The draw took place on May 20, 1974, although there were still several unknowns at the time, especially with regard to the Carinthian representative, who was either Austria Klagenfurt or Villacher SV (or the VSV syndicate with Radenthein). B. in the 1st round the pairing with Austria Wien vs. Carinthia was specified. The start of the championship, which was scheduled for August 11th, was fixed (the matches were played on August 9th / 10th), and a second round match always took place immediately afterwards (for the 1st round fixed on August 14th) , the over-title was "First Matchday"; the last autumn round, ie the "ninth matchday" was programmed for December 1st and 8th.
According to the referee chairman Fritz Seipelt, the implementation with the immediate
second half of the season was an additional burden for the referees.

Second performance level - national league

    General

For the first time since the 1933/34 season, a single-track second tier was played with the National League. The championship was contested with 14 teams who met twice during the entire season. The national league champion, the GAK, was promoted to the Bundesliga, the last placed SK Bischofshofen was relegated, in his case to the Salzburg regional league. The promotion to the national league was more complicated, as there was an asymmetrical third level of performance this season: The champion of the Regionalliga Ost, SC Tulln, rose directly, in qualifying games the six national champions determined two more promoted teams: SV Sankt Veit (group center) and Salzburg AK 1914 (Group West). The number of second-rate clubs increased to 16 in the coming season.
