The FC Liefering is a football club from Salzburg . Although named after the Liefering district, the association is based in the Taxham district . The club has been playing in the 2nd league , the second highest level in Austria , since the 2013/14 season .

Until 2012 the association was called Union-Sportklub Anif , USK Anif for short , was based in Anif and also included the following sections: gymnastics , skiing , athletics , stick sports and tennis . Since then, FC Liefering has been under the control of Red Bull GmbH and serves as the farm team for FC Red Bull Salzburg . Since July 1, 2016, the soccer department has been outsourced to FC Liefering GmbH , 100 percent of which is held by the registered club.

history

The establishment of the USK Anif is solely due to female activities, because around ten women met for regular gymnastics lessons in the Schloßwirtsaal and soon the idea of founding an association was considered. On May 20, 1947, this project was realized and the club was founded as the "Gymnastics and Sports Union Anif". The founding committee consisted of women, Maria Pichler, Ella Komposch, Elsa Zyla and Maria Gastager.

In the autumn of the founding year one could see male athletes who had conspired to play football. The enthusiasm for football was so great that they trained regularly and played friendly games against teams from neighboring communities. In autumn 1948, the football section was founded within the existing club. Further sections followed over the years. Interestingly, at the general assembly on January 8, 1949, the board of directors of the association consisted of Richard Kohlbacher, Hans Schwarz, Erwin Baburek and Alois Grangl only of men.

The start of the Anifer footballers was successful, because the championship title in 2nd class B was won in the first year of play, followed by numerous other titles in various leagues. Through league reallocations Anif played from the mid-1950s to 1974 in the 1st class or regional class North and achieved promotion to the regional league for the first time with the championship title in 1965, to which one belonged for four years. From the mid-1970s onwards, footballers began to fly high, culminating in the championship title of the Alpine League and promotion to the second highest Austrian league, the then 2nd division.

By participating in this league in 1978/79, the club gained national fame, albeit not through outstanding sporting achievements: The first 14 games in a row were lost, and Anif's first goal was only achieved in the 6th game. The first victory finally came in the last autumn round. In the program Sport am Montag , ORF dedicated a documentary to USK Anif, where the fan base in particular was positively highlighted, as the team was always celebrated despite the defeats. During this time, an "Anif Fan Club" was founded in Vienna, which supported the provincial team from Salzburg at games in the federal capital. The spring season then went a little better, but Anif had to return to the Alpine League with only eight points as bottom of the table. To date, no team that has actually played all games has achieved fewer points in one season in the second-highest division. ( SK Vorwärts Steyr scored only four points in 1999/2000, but the game was suspended after the license was withdrawn during the winter break).

Numerous players from the youth department have made the leap into the Bundesliga. For example, Walter Koch, a former anifer, played for SV Austria Salzburg and LASK Linz . The best-known footballer from the Anif youth is Martin Amerhauser , who on December 3, 1993, with his UEFA Cup goal in the extension of the game against Sporting Lisbon, triggered the soaring of Casino Austria Salzburg .

From 2003 to 2012

For the 2003/04 season , the club played in Regionalliga West , but had to realize at the end of the season that they were too weak and were relegated straight away. Anif has been firmly established in the Regionalliga West since the 2007/08 season . After the second team of FC Red Bull Salzburg had to relegate to the Regionalliga West after the 2009/10 season and promotion was no longer possible due to the new Bundesliga statutes, Red Bull looked for a cooperation club. The aim of this cooperation is to enable the Red Bull Salzburg youth players to play in a higher league than the regional league and to send them to the Red Bull Football Academy in Liefering . With financial help from Red Bull, numerous experienced players were brought to Anif for the 2010/11 season , such as Andreas Schrott , Manfred Pamminger , Patrick Mayer and Ingo Enzenberger , in order to achieve promotion to the first division . After the failed promotion, the team was rebuilt, but still achieved a top position in the fall season 2011/12. At the end of the autumn season, coach Thomas Hofer left the club and switched to league rivals SV Austria Salzburg . Michael Baur , the previous co-trainer of LASK, became the new trainer .

Renaming and relocation in 2012

Akademie Liefering, the venue of FC Liefering in the Regionalliga West

At the general assembly on June 28, 2012, the members of the USK Anif decided to rename the club to FC Liefering . The old board of directors was removed and a new one was elected. In addition, practically all of the more than 500 members (with the exception of the new board of directors) left the association and joined a newly founded association called FC Anif on June 22, 2011 . The background to this campaign was that the new FC Liefering should appear as the unofficial farm team of FC Red Bull Salzburg , because its second team, the Red Bull Juniors, are not allowed to advance to the first division . FC Liefering, which is officially independent from Red Bull, is now to achieve this goal. Therefore, since the 2012/13 season he has been playing his games in the Red Bull Arena as a rule, as no games are possible on the sports field of the Red Bull Lieferingen Football Academy due to the expansion.

The newly founded FC Anif , on the other hand, will play in a syndicate with the Red Bull Juniors in the Anifer Sports Center in the old club colors. The Anifer wanted to improve the financial situation of the club by merging with Red Bull. Heinrich Seelenbacher, who was chairman of USK Anif until the name was changed and who also took over this position in the new FC Anif, had feared relegation from the Regionalliga West due to economic problems "in the next two-three years". In fact, FC Liefering secured the championship title in the Regionalliga West in the 2012/13 season and thus qualified for the relegation games against the champions of the Regionalliga Mitte , LASK . Salzburg won the home game against the traditional Upper Austrian club 2-0 and the away game 3-0, making it to the first league, the second level in Austria, and counting among the 20 best football teams in the country.

With the rise in professional football, the club moved to the much larger Red Bull Arena . Since the 2013/14 season, the home games have been held in Wals-Siezenheim instead of at the Liefering Academy. In their first season in the 2nd league, the Lieferinger took third place. After the end of the season, the team, which already had a lower average age, was rejuvenated again. Ivan Kovacec moved to SCR Altach in the Bundesliga and Rene Aufhauser ended his career. He became assistant coach at the Lieferingern, and Wolfgang Mair and Mario Konrad also left the club. In the autumn 2014/15 season, the younger team took third place, just one point behind leaders LASK and thirteen points ahead of fourth, the FAC.

Red Bull Arena venue of FC Liefering since 2018

After the spring season, in which more young players from the FC Red Bull Salzburg academy were installed, they managed to take second place in the final table with 20 wins, 5 draws and 11 defeats (70:55 goals).

At the beginning of the 2014/15 spring season, the Liefering team played their home games in the Untersbergarena in Grödig, the home stadium of SV Grödig . With the advance rent payment, the stadium was equipped with underfloor heating.

In June 2015, FC Red Bull Salzburg announced that coach Peter Zeidler would be the new coach of FC Red Bull Salzburg. His successor as coach was Thomas Letsch , who was Austrian champion with the U18 team. René Aufhauser remained assistant coach. Second assistant coach was Janusz Góra , who came from the academy together with Letsch.

After coach Peter Zeidler was sacked in the first team at the end of 2015, René Aufhauser switched to the first team as co-trainer under Oscar Garcia . His successor as assistant coach was Franz Schiemer . In the 2015/16 season, FC Liefering took fourth place. The team's performance is highly valued, as after the squad was rejuvenated at the beginning of the spring season, the average age of the starting team was often under 19. After the end of the season, the contract with Thomas Letsch was extended for another year until June 2017.

As every year, some players were given away and new young players were brought in. The loan deal with João Pedro expired and he went back to Brazil. The contracts of Sebastian Wachter , Raphael Dwamena , Elvis Osmani , Alexander Joppich , Benjamin Kaufmann , Marco Hödl and Isaac Vorsah were not extended.

Rami Tekir from Wacker Innsbruck and Lucas Xavier Urias from Red Bull Brasil and Patson Daka were signed on during the winter transition period of 2016/17 . The autumn season ended in second place in the table. At the end of January 2017, assistant trainer Franz Schiemer left the club and switched to SV Ried , where he becomes sports director. Alexander Zickler takes his position as assistant coach .

The season was extremely satisfactory. Despite ongoing redundancies, including for the FC Red Bull Salzburg U19 team, the season was finished as runner-up. Also this year there were changes in the squad. After the season, the contracts with Sandro Ingolitsch , Maximilian Mayer , Lawrence Ati Zigi , Luan and Lorenz Grabovac were not extended. Grabovac signed a contract with the Bundesliga club SKN St. Pölten . The loan contract with Lucas Xavier was also not renewed.

New players came to Liefering in the 2017/18 season. Dominik Szoboszlai , Daniel Antosch, Alexander Schmidt , Aldin Aganovic , Dominik Stumberger and Tobias Anselm moved from the academy to the Lieferingern. Other newcomers were Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu , who moved from Kafue Celtic FC from Zambia to Salzburg, as well as Rodrigo and Vitinho on loan from Red Bull Brasil .

After the autumn round, Liefering took fifth place. Since two spring rounds were played before the winter break, the Liefering team improved to fourth place. They were three points behind the championship leader SV Ried. The season ended in fifth place, which meant the worst performance in the first division.

At the beginning of the 2018/19 season Nicolas Meister , who switched to LASK , Nico Gorzel , Emir Karic , now SCR Altach , Rodrigo , whose loan contract ended and therefore returned to Red Bull Brasil , and Maximilian Schuster left the club. Also changed Bartłomiej Żynel ( Wisla Plock ), Bojan Lugonja ( SV Ried ) and Luca Meisl ( SKN St. Polten ).

Newcomers were David Schnegg from WSG Wattens and, as cooperation players for FC Red Bull Salzburg, Kilian Ludewig , Karim Adeyemi and Abdourahmane Barry .

In the 2019/20 season, Michael Feichtenbeiner, who had previously looked after the German U17 national team, was appointed as the new coach because Bo Svensson's move was still causing difficulties with his old club. After signing the contract, he took over the coaching position from Feichtenbeiner, who left the club. Babak Keyhanfar became the new assistant coach alongside Fabio Ingolitsch . Additions were Bryan Okoh (FC Lausanne-Sport U-18), Benjamin SESKO (NK Domžale U-17) and Maurits Kjaergaard (Lyngby BK U-17). These are cooperation players of FC Red Bull Salzburg.

Like every season, players from the youth academy also joined the squad ( Tobias Berger , Amar Dedic , Sebastian Aigner , Alexander Prass , Nicolas Seiwald , Csaba Bukta and Luka Sučić ).

After a difficult start, in autumn only tenth place was achieved, the club started to recover in the second half of the season. After the break forced by Corona, there was no defeat. In 2020, FC Liefering was the most successful team in the second division. Karim Adeyemi was pulled up into the first team during the winter break, as did Junior Adamu and Nicolas Seiwald after the end of the season .
