history

Etymology of place names

  • Anif: Romanesque, perhaps also pre-Romanesque origin: Anapa, Anava, Anniva, Anua
  • Niederalm: Also Romanesque origin: Albhanta, Albina, Alben, Albm (see also lower Albe for the Königsseeache )

Local history

Already in the Notitia Arnonis of 788 “the church at Anif” was mentioned in writing.

By (Salzburg state) law of July 17, 1894, LGBl 25/1894, Anif and Niederalm were separated from Grödig :

“Count Arco-Stepperg discussed with the Anifer farmers and told them that for Grödig with his various factories and iron hammers and with the several hundred workers employed in the Fürstenbrunn quarry, it would be a major nuisance in terms of conservation if these companies came to a standstill. Grödig would have the benefits and Anif would have the payments. We also want to get away with the church, and so it happened ... "

The first mayor of Anif was Matthias Schnöll, Holznerbauer, who held this position from 1895 to 1898, he was replaced by Rupert Mayr, Kaiserbauer.

Since then, Anif has grown into a wealthy community. The place is considered to be one of the best locations in the vicinity of the city of Salzburg.

economy

With an area of only 7.6  km², Anif is one of the smallest communities in the Salzburg region . The high proportion of grassland was increased significantly in 1998; By majority decision, the new zoning plan came into force in December 1998, whereby 500,000 m² of building land or industrial area were devoted to grassland, which is mainly due to the farmers who “want to remain farmers” and therefore agreed to considerable reallocations. It also benefits the city of Salzburg's green belt, which has recently also been explicitly placed under construction protection.

With PGV Austria Trunk GmbH and Sony DADC , two large companies are located in Anif (actually in Niederalm). Further businesses are located in the industrial park built in 1998.
