Hans Katschthaler , actually Johann Rupert Katschthaler (born March 13, 1933 in Embach , Salzburg , † July 5, 2012 in Anif ) was an Austrian politician . From 1989 to 1996 he was Governor of Salzburg .

After primary and secondary school in Lend, he attended the federal teacher training institute in Salzburg from 1948 to 1953 and worked as a primary school teacher in Grossarl in 1953/54. He then studied history, geography, philosophy and education in Innsbruck until 1959. After receiving his doctorate in 1958 with the dissertation The Tax Reform of Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo at the University of Innsbruck to become a Dr. phil. he worked in Saalfelden and later at the teacher training institute in Salzburg.

Before his political career in the ÖVP , Hans Katschthaler was a professor at the Music and Education Federal Realgymnasium in Salzburg from 1967, and he also taught at the Federal Education Academy and at the Philosophical Faculty of Salzburg University. 1973 Katschthaler became director of the music-pedagogical high school. He then held the office of the State Council for School and Education Matters from 1974 to 1977; In 1977 he was appointed Deputy Governor of the then Governor Wilfried Haslauer senior . He held this office until 1989. After the defeat in the state elections in 1989 and the loss of the absolute majority of the ÖVP, Haslauer resigned as governor. He was followed by Katschthaler on May 3, 1989 as governor and in the role of governor of the Salzburg People's Party. On April 24, 1996 he handed over his office to Franz Schausberger (also ÖVP).

Katschthaler was an original member of the K.Ö.HV Alpinia zu Innsbruck and band philistine of the K.Ö.HV Rupertina zu Salzburg in the ÖCV and the K.Ö.St.V. Sighartstein zu Neumarkt and the K.ö.St.V. Almgau Salzburg in the MKV . It was invested in the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem on September 21, 1974 in Salzburg . He was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1994.
