Adolf Schemel

Adolf Schemel (born June 30, 1880 in Salzburg ; † June 27, 1961 there ) was the first governor of Salzburg after the Second World War.

Life

The son of the kk major August Schemel von Kühnritt had been a member of the Salzburg provincial government since 1903 with a doctorate in law. In 1934 he was deputy governor and state finance officer, but was relieved of his offices after the German invasion in 1938 . Schemel was imprisoned for seven months during the Nazi regime .

After the Second World War, Schemel was proposed in a petition by representatives of the SPÖ , KPÖ and the former Christian Socials of the American occupying power as governor of Salzburg. He was officially confirmed in this office on May 23, 1945 and remained in office until the first elected state parliament met at the end of 1945. He then acted as Deputy Governor until 1949. After his death in 1961 he was buried in the Salzburg municipal cemetery.

Since 1923 he was an honorary member of the K.ö.St.V. Almgau Salzburg in the MKV .
