history
The discovery of the remains of a Roman villa during construction work in 1953 shows that there was settlement in the 2nd century. The first documented mentions of the place and the church can be traced back to the early 8th century. The name Talgov appears for the first time in 788 in the Arnonian list of goods . At that time the Bavarian Duke Theudebert gave the place to the Hochstift Salzburg . The parish church of St. Martin, the central point of the whole valley, is mentioned as early as 700 when the place was founded. The current parish church dates from 1755.
From 1547 to 1552 the Salzburg canon Eberhard von Hirnheim officiated here as pastor. In 1552 he became Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt ; In 2012 a memorial concert was held in Thalgau in his honor.
Thalgau was on the old Ischlerbahn and has had a motorway connection ( West Autobahn ) since 1943 .
coat of arms
- "In gold green of two mountain slopes shaped, wide valley one leaned tag, is in blue on green bow sign foot a natural-colored Capricorn , surmounted by a silver pot helmet with blue and gold bead on a peacock feather fan from four green peacock feathers from five natural colored bars , each equipped with a green peacock feather. "
The decisive factor for this award is the fact that Thalgau, as the main location of the centuries-old court of the same name, deserves a heraldic symbol . The chosen coat of arms initially contains an allusion to the name of the community ( speaking coat of arms ) and also shows (as a shield ) the coat of arms of the former court lords of the Lords of Wartenfels , as it appears according to previous research.

- A partnership has existed with the city of Neu-Anspach from the Federal Republic of Germany since 1973/1974 .

economy
Not least because of its regional importance - in Thalgau there are supra-local public institutions such as the district court, school center, cleanliness association and old people's home - the municipality was declared a market municipality in 1976 by the Salzburg state government . The community is strongly influenced by agriculture . In the 2010s, in addition to the established trading and commercial enterprises, some larger commercial and industrial enterprises were relocated, which improved the job situation for the population. Due to its proximity to the state capital on the one hand and the Salzkammergut lakes on the other, Thalgau is also a tourist destination. Because of the network of hiking trails with excursion destinations and sports and leisure facilities, Thalgau is developing into a local recreation area.

fire Department
The volunteer fire brigade (FF) Thalgau is located almost directly in the center of Thalgau. The responsibility extends over the entire municipality of Thalgau with all districts as well as over the nearby motorway A1 between Thalgau and Eugendorf or between Thalgau and Mondsee (Upper Austria). Special attention is also paid to the industrial area with numerous businesses. In addition, there is a separate fire fighting train in the Unterdorf district.
