history

Around the birth of Christ, the area on Lake Obertrumer was settled by the Romans. In Kirchstätt (Obertrum) a “hypocaust” (heating system) from Roman times was found.

The oldest known place name is from 1143 as "Druma", which means something like "upper end of the lake basin". In prehistoric times the three Trumer lakes were connected to one lake (the Mattsee ) and finds indicate that they were used as a shipping route.

Until 1398, the Diocese of Passau owned the Mattsee estate, which was the sole landlord of Obertrum. In 1398 the place became part of the Prince Archbishopric of Salzburg , which was secularized in 1803 and converted into the Electorate of Salzburg . With this it came to Austria in 1805 , to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1810 and finally to Austria in 1816. In church terms, the parish of Obertrum belonged to the diocese of Passau until 1807.
