The Roman Catholic parish church Obertrum am See stands a little higher in the center of the market town of Obertrum am See in the Salzburg-Umgebung district in the State of Salzburg . The church, consecrated to St. James the Elder , belongs to the Deanery Köstendorf in the Archdiocese of Salzburg . The church is a listed building .

history

A parish was mentioned in a document in 1143. From 1338 to 1893 there was a refectory for the dean of Mattsee Abbey . In 1499 the late Gothic west tower was built with Wolfgang Wiesinger from Braunau am Inn. In 1714 a side aisle was added to the south and a side aisle was added to the north in 1799. After a fire (1917), the church was rebuilt and furnished from 1917 to 1920 according to the plans of the architect Karl Pirich, influenced by Art Nouveau. In 1925 the church was rededicated. 1950 and 1965 was an exterior restoration, 1957 an interior restoration. In 2015 the church was extensively renovated, with the remains of the wall from 10/11. Century were found.

Building

The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery. The essentially medieval church with a late Gothic west tower was extended with baroque side aisles and from 1917 after a fire with a central nave elevation through a flat wooden coffered ceiling ( Jakob Adlhart ) expanded into a basilica . The eastern apse with a 5/8 end forms the chancel. A memorial stone from 1625 for Vicar Thomas Passecker can be seen in the south wall of the nave.

Facility

The high altar

The high altar forms with other figures: a Holy Trinity hanging from the ceiling and the console figures of the apostles Peter and James the Elder, in the apse an ensemble and shows the assumption of Mary into heaven .

The altar of the left aisle, the Maria-Hilf-Altar, is a two-pillar, baroque aedicule altar with a painting of St. Antony . The assistant figures John the Baptist stand on the wall brackets on the left and the Evangelist John on the right. The top picture in the blown gable shows a Maria with child. The altar of the right aisle, the Joseph altar, is a Baroque aedicule altar from the end of the 17th century with the image of the flight into Egypt. The predella shows the birth of Jesus. Assistant figures are on the left of St. Vincent of Valencia , on the right a St. Deacon.

The baroque pulpit was built around 1740 and was acquired from Berndorf in 1922. The basket is decorated with relief depictions of the four evangelists. Busts of the four church fathers can be seen on the sound cover; the statue of St. Michael is a work of Adlhart .

The larger-than-life figures of saints on the north and south walls of the nave were created by Adlhart and his workshop with the participation of Artur Rauch . Stations of the cross carved in relief are also part of the furnishings ( Adlhart 1961).
