history

The place Seeham was created in the foothills of the Alps at the foot of the Haunsberg ridge on the rubble cone of the Pfarrgrabenbach (Altbach). The landscape owes its charm to the huge ice flow that once pushed out of the mountains. The three Trumer Lakes, until around the 18th century a single large lake, are still connected by canals today.

People settled on the lake shores in prehistoric times, feeding on fishing, hunting and agriculture. The Hallstatt tombs in Innerwall suggest this. Around the birth of Christ, the area on Lake Obertrumer was settled by the Romans. In Kirchstätt (Obertrum) a “hypocaust” (heating system) from Roman times was found. In the 7th century, the Bavarians settled and Christianized this area. (St. Rupertus - patron saint of Salzburg). The crossing from Seeham to Mattsee played a major role in the oldest times. Seeham never came forward, his fate and history were linked to Mattsee.

In 1384 and 1385 a "property on the Indernwald (Innerwall) and at Aynolsdsfelden (Ansfelden) on the Haunsberg in Seehaimer-Pfarre" was sold to the Mattsee chapter. Here the name Seeham (Heim am See) is first mentioned in a document.

In 1398 the Trumer Lake District came into the possession of the Archbishop of Salzburg. This marked the beginning of an economic and cultural boom for this area. The old documents about Seeham don't go back too far. School should begin in 1688. The old school house was near the church, but was completely destroyed in the fire in 1842. From 1853 to 1967 the lessons were held in the Kramersepplhaus, in 1967 the new building of the elementary school, one of the most urgent tasks of the Seeham community, was completed. The rebuilding of the church began in 1931 under Pastor Rohrmoser. The older components date from around 1400 and earlier. The old walls stood on pilots that had rotten, walls and vaults were already showing wide cracks.

Until the end of May 1923 the community belonged to the judicial district Mattsee , since June 1, 1923 it has been part of the judicial district Oberndorf .

In 1873 the first brochure “Seeham am Trumersee near Salzburg, with its surroundings, seaside resorts and excursions” is published by Max Glonner . A view from the Wiesenberghöhe drawn and autographed from nature by Karl von Frey is attached as an appendix .

Around 1875 Seeham developed into a place of summer retreat . The Hotel Siegl (today: Dorfwirtshaus Eberl) is built by the innkeeper Josef Sigl and he creates the associated park. At that time it was the first hotel in Flachgau. A “seasonal association” to promote tourism is founded. Several private individuals set up the first bathing establishment. In 1927 , the seasonal club finally acquired the entire concession for bathing and the entire park area. In the mid-1930s there was a small lido, the Seewirt, there was a boat rental and a tennis court (existed around 1980). In 1954 the bathing establishment was rebuilt. In the 1960s , the Seeham lido was expanded to include the area it is today. Until the 1960s, Seeham was still a village near the lake.

In the years that followed, major projects were tackled: purchase of the Zacherlhaus (a parking lot was created), construction of a promenade path began and the hiking trails were expanded. Today Seeham can record 37,000 overnight stays per season, which has been achieved through an expanded range of beds (private accommodation) and by stimulating the off-season.

religion

The place Seeham is mentioned as a church district as early as 1135. Perhaps a chapel already existed then. In the years 1310, 1342 and 1385, the documents mention a church in Seeham. The old presbytery was built at that time. In 1458 altars were consecrated in the church by the auxiliary bishop Sigmund von Passau, the high altar in honor of St. John the Baptist, a side altar in honor of St. Vitus and St. Barbara. At that time the nave and the tower were built; The church door with the Gothic fittings or the baptismal font, the holy water bowl and a chalice also date from this period. In 1511 there is a priest in Seeham, Georg Altherr von Laufen, later the service was carried out by the gentlemen in Mattsee until around 1600.

The registers begin in 1606. In 1633 and 1677 a clock was installed in the tower. In 1720 the tower was crowned with a helmet based on the pattern of the cathedral towers and the baptism of Christ was carved for the high altar. The oldest bell bears the year 1786. In 1837 new side altars were added. In 1847, the Hietel family dedicated a monstrance, chalice, mass clothing, etc. The Seeham church belongs to the Mattsee monastery, which it imported, and until 1807 was under the control of the Bishop of Passau, not that of Salzburg. In 1842 a great fire raged which destroyed the inner village. The church was spared. At that time the surrounding houses were built: blacksmiths, bakers, messenger martin, also the school house and others. The pastor lived in the Öd on the Haunsberg until 1905, with his economy. In 1905 it was sold and a rectory was built in the village under Pastor Adolf Rohrmoser.
