Hans Berentzen

Johannes Bernhard Ludwig Maria Berentzen , called: Hans Berentzen, (born June 18, 1927 in Haselünne ; † August 14, 2005 ibid) was a German spirits manufacturer . As a senior partner and commercial director, his name stands for the expansion and internationalization of the Berentzen schnapps distiller .

Life

Johannes Berentzen, called Hans, was born in 1927 as the eldest of nine children of Johannes Bernhard Berentzen (1899–1954) and his wife Anna. Kerckhoff (1903–1968) born. Hermann Kerckhoff was his uncle. Immediately after the end of the Second World War he studied economics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and passed his exams in 1949. In 1949, the young graduate economist joined the family business as an authorized signatory . In 1954, at the age of 27, he took over the company management together with his brother Friedrich Berentzen after the death of their father. In 1958 they both founded Emsland-Getränke, a second mainstay in the field of non-alcoholic beverages. This development was expanded in 1960 with the takeover of the Pepsi-Cola license for Germany. The spirits entrepreneur developed the Berentzen apple grain together with his brother . This was celebrated in 1976 as the most successful launch of a German spirit after World War II. In 1988 the brothers merged with Pabst & Richarz.

From 1992 to 2000 he was the chairman of the supervisory board of the family company and also accompanied the strategic decisions after the merger of the two family companies. As the only company in the German spirits industry to date, Hans and Friedrich Berentzen listed the family company on the stock exchange in 1994.

Political and social engagement

From 1991 to 1998 Hans Berentzen was President of the Osnabrück-Emsland Chamber of Commerce and Industry and from 1987 to 1996 Vice-President of the Federal Association of German Spirits Industry and Importers . Hans Berentzen was active for many years in various supervisory bodies, for example on the supervisory board of Bünting AG in Leer in Frisia and the German grain brandy processing center in Münster as well as on the administrative board of the Landschaftliche Brandkasse Hannover. Between 1991 and 1998 he was Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of the Netherlands .

From 1956 to 1968 Berentzen was a member of the Haselünner city council, from 1968 to 1974 the district council of the district of Meppen and from 1977 to 1986 the district council of the district of Emsland .

As the parents' representative, he obtained the takeover of the St. Ursulaschule by the district of Meppen / Emsland in 1972 and thus prevented the closure of the nun-run grammar school. He also managed to have the Catholic St. Vinzenz Hospital, of whose board of trustees he had been a member since 1956, expanded and added a new department.

Hans Berentzen was an enthusiastic organist. He pursued his hobby, organ music, by doing organ service in the local church of St. Vincentius for around 60 years.
