Apple grain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apple grain is a mixture of apple juice and wheat grain and at the same time the slang term for various liqueurs based on wheat grain with apple flavor .

history

Berentzen was the first spirits manufacturer to introduce the party mix as a finished product on the German market in 1976 . Apple grain has been exported since 1979 and has remained the most successful spirit in the range for many years . Many manufacturers now offer grain and apple-flavored spirits. Berentzen expanded the range in 1993 with the sour apple variant and in 1995 with the spiced winter apple . The original Berentzen Apple Korn today has only an alcohol content of 18  % vol. And is in the series Fruity officially Berentzen Apfel marketed. The product is declared as a “spirit” as well as a “liqueur with apples and wheat grain”.

definition

In the current EU spirits regulation, “apple grain” is not defined separately. However, the designation “grain” may only be used for grain brandies with at least 32% alcohol by volume, which may not be flavored. The sales description for commercial apple grain is therefore either simply “spirit” or “liqueur” if the sugar content is at least 100 grams per liter of invert sugar (or corresponding proportions of other types of sugar). Since pure apple juice naturally only contains around 100 grams of sugar per liter, apple grains designated as liqueurs are always sweetened as well.
