Elixhausen is located in Flachgau, around 10 kilometers northeast of the city of Salzburg. With an area of 8.36 km², the municipality is one of the smaller municipalities in terms of area.

history

The place name Elixhausen ( Ebidechsumhusa - house of the abbess) is first mentioned in a Nonnberg document around the year 1000. On the occasion of an exchange of goods between Archbishop Hartwig and the members of the Benedictine monastery Nonnberg , the place is named House of the Abbess . Most of the farmers were under the monastery rule.

In 1122, the origin of the estate was first mentioned in a document. At that time, it was one of the largest landowners in northern Flachgau with over 100 hectares. Without origin, 141 people lived in 27 houses in Elixhausen in 1151. At the beginning there were 19 houses with 102 people. The community has had its own church since 1168/1175. In 1334 the name Edexhausen was written down and developed from Elexhausen to today's name.

In 1891 the place was elevated to a Catholic parish. Today the Roman Catholic parish comprises around 1,900 people. The Evangelical community of Sachsenheim, founded by Transylvanian Saxons , has around 500 members.

A divided shield , with a black-clad abbess growing in gold above , the silver staff in her right hand, her left hand at her breast. Rising up below in black is a silver house with a golden hipped roof that extends to the field division and two windows as well as a protruding central building with a golden pointed roof and closed golden gate and above it two windows side by side.

economy

Pongruber & Söhne has existed under the name Pongruber since around 1897. However, the location was first mentioned in 1779 as a farrier and hammer smithy to Fahrenzagl. What started back then with a small country smithy developed over time into a renowned company, whereby the ambience of a family business was never lost.
Akzo Nobel is one of the largest companies in Elixhausen. The company's core business is focused on industrial paints / varnishes and facade paints.
Today's Romantik Hotel Gmachl is the oldest Austrian family business with a proven history of more than 680 years (1334 first documented mention of Hof and "Taferne").

Rail: Elixhausen has a common western railway station with Hallwang , the station is about 3 km away.
Bus: The regional bus line 120 (Salzburg - Mattsee) runs directly through Elixhausen. Travel time from and to the city of Salzburg approx. 20 minutes. Since the beginning of October 2010, students at the HTL Itzling have been able to use the newly established school bus.

education

Since 1939 there was a kindergarten for a few years, which was run in the so-called Mesnerbauernhaus. After 33 years, a provisional kindergarten was set up again under Mayor Georg Kübler . In September 1972 the kindergarten was established in the former rooms of the polytechnic course in the elementary school. Since 1984 the kindergarten has been expanded to include three groups. In 1991 the kindergarten moved to its current location near the town center on Untergrubstrasse.
