The Free Party of Salzburg (FPS) was an Austrian party . It was created in June 2015 as a split from the FPÖ . In the 2017 National Council election , the party ran under the name Free List Austria .

history

In the run-up to the split, there had been conflicts between the FPÖ federal party leader Heinz-Christian Strache and the former chairman of the Salzburg state party group Karl Schnell . On June 9, 2015, Strache Schnell and Rupert Doppler , who had been the regional party chairman until then, were expelled from the FPÖ. Schnell commented on the argument that Strache was in a power frenzy and insinuated that he needed a psychologist instead of his secretary Kickl. Five of the six FPÖ members in the Salzburg state parliament , two members of the National Council (Rupert Doppler and Gerhard Schmid ) and a Federal Councilor quickly joined.

A conflict developed between the FPS and the remaining Salzburg state party group over the party name and the allocation of funding. As of July 31, 2015, the FPS was legally banned from using the party's wording "Freedom Party", which is why it has since called itself "Free Party Salzburg". Schnell subsequently announced the founding of a party at the federal level.

On October 1, 2015, the FPÖ filed for bankruptcy over the FPS, which was rejected on November 11, 2015.

In the state elections in Salzburg in 2018 , the Free Party of Salzburg just failed the 5% hurdle with a result of 4.54% and lost all of its five state parliament mandates.

With a letter to the Ministry of the Interior, the party disbanded voluntarily in March 2019 and paid back around 210,000 euros in unused club funding to the country.

In July 2017 Schnell announced that he would run nationwide for the 2017 National Council election in Austria . This required three signatures from members of the National Council; In addition to the two FPÖ mandataries who had switched to FPS, Schnell received a signature from Christoph Hagen from the disbanding Stronach team . The name “Free Party Austria” was initially rumored. In July the name was known as Free List Austria - FPS List Dr. Karl Schnell , abbreviated as FLÖ .

On August 7, 2017, the previous Lower Austrian FPÖ politician and former candidate for the 2010 federal presidential election , Barbara Rosenkranz , announced her departure and candidacy for the FLÖ. In August 2017 Martina Schenk also moved from Team Stronach to Free List Austria.

The list received 0.17% of the valid votes.
