Judas Thaddäus Zauner
Judas Thaddäus Zauner (also J. Thaddäus Zauner ; born October 16, 1750 in Zaun , Obertrum am See , † May 10, 1813 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian legal scholar , historian and university professor .
Life
Zauner was the son of poor farmers. The gifted child was able to obtain a higher education through a relative. In May 1764 he was accepted at the Salzburg grammar school . His progress moved the Prince Archbishop Sigismund III. To support Christoph von Schrattenbach financially the young Zauner. In 1770 he graduated from high school and turned to university studies. After studying philosophy and mathematics , he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . At first he pursued the plan to become a priest . He passed the entrance exam in Passau very well, but was rejected due to his small height (probably only 150 cm).
Zauner returned to Salzburg, where he devoted himself to studying law. During this time he served as a private tutor in the house of the history professor Johann Philipp Stainhauser . This aroused his interest in history. In 1779 he received a licentiate in both rights . In the same year he became a consistorial and court judge advocate in Salzburg and an imperial public notary . On March 30, 1787 he became a member of the Moral and Agricultural Society in Burghausen and on March 21, 1801, a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
Zauner took in 1803 a reputation as a professor of the rights to the Salzburg University at. At the same time he was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD. He received the title of court counselor and in 1805 he was appointed real court war counselor, and after the change of rule on September 30, 1808, he was appointed district administrator. When the university was converted into a lyceum in 1810 , he lost his professorship. April 18, 1811, again under Bavarian rule, he was once again court advisor and professor of history at the local lyceum and head of the Salzburg university library . From 1812 he also taught Latin philology.
Zauner died in 1815 of a nervous fever .
