Roberto Zerquera Blanco (born June 7, 1937 in Tunis , Tunisia ) is a German pop singer , actor and entertainer .

life and work

Blanco was born in Tunis as the son of the Cuban folklore and variety artist Alfonso Zerquera and his wife, the Cuban dancer and singer Mercedes Blanco. He grew up in Beirut and Madrid . His mother died when he was two years old. After school he began in Madrid to study medicine , but he dropped out after two semesters.

Blanco came to Germany in 1956. In 1957 he starred in the film The Star of Africa . He began his singing career with Josephine Baker . In 1958 he sang a hit in the German color film Stage Free for Marika . In the 1960s he became a hit star and appeared in various films ( All people become brothers according to Johannes Mario Simmel and Three Men in the Snow according to Erich Kästner ). In 1969 he won the German Schlager Festival with the title Today so, tomorrow so . In 1971 Blanco received German citizenship . In the following years he recorded a few hits and had his greatest successes in 1972 with A Little Fun Must Be by the composer Christian Bruhn and The Puppeteer of Mexico . Blanco was a guest in television music programs, including several times in the ZDF hit parade .

Blanco got his own TV show in 1973 so today, so tomorrow . Blanco competed several times in the Eurovision Song Contest : in 1970 he was fifth in the German preliminary decision with Auf dem Kurfürstendamm says love , in 1973 his titles Ich bin ein Glücksteiger Mann and Au revoir, goodbye places 4 and 11; In 1979 he finally finished fourth with Samba si! Work no! . In 1976 there was also the Roberto Blanco Show , which on December 21, 1976 had an audience rating of 49 percent.

In 1980 Roberto Blanco was with the game show Notes for Two , which he moderated together with Elisabeth Volkmann , successor to Rudi Carrell's Amlauf Band , but the show was canceled in 1982 after four episodes at his own request. Other programs with Blanco were Roberto - An Evening with Roberto Blanco and Music is My World (both on First German Television ). In 1986 he went to Cuba for the first time, where in 1987 he was the first foreign artist to have his own show block in the “ Tropicana ” revue in Havana .

In the 1990s he performed mood songs with Tony Marshall . One of their greatest hits together was Resi bring Bier , a German version of the track Crazy for you by David Hasselhoff . German television ( MDR ) dedicated an anniversary program to him in 1997, in which the star dancer Marlène Charell , who beat him in the mambotance , but also her husband Roger Pappini , Peter Kraus and other celebrities appeared. In 1994 he also worked as a producer. The album Por tu amor was released with songs in his Spanish mother tongue and with musicians from South America. In 1996 he made guest appearances on Lotto King Karl's single Da ist die Tür . He is also a permanent guest at Schlager Oldie events, such as Radio Bremen's annual Schlager Festival , where he performs his own hits and presents colleagues.

In 2008 he played a petty criminal in the Middle Ages in the film 1½ Knights - In Search of the Adorable Herzelinde , who also bears his name.

In 2011 he spoke the giant toucan Rafael in the film Rio and released a new album entitled You live better when you laugh . On August 4th, 2011 Blanco appeared as a guest together with the thrash metal band Sodom at the Wacken Open Air 2011 and sang metal versions of A bit of fun must be and Amarillo . The appearance was part of a campaign against Alzheimer's .

From October to December 2012 Blanco played the role of the self-loving television presenter Heinz Wäscher in Hape Kerkeling's musical Kein Pardon at the Capitol Theater in Düsseldorf.

In 2013 Blanco released the single A bit of fun must be together with the DJ and rapper duo Finger & Kadel , a reinterpretation of his hit with characteristics of electronic dance and hip-hop .

In 2014, like Matthias Reim before him, he took his own financial situation on the grain and produced a video from his most famous hit together with the advertising agency Jung von Matt for the Sixt car rental company with the title “A bit of saving must be”.

In 2014 he spoke again as the giant toucan Rafael in the film Rio 2 - Jungle Fever .

In 2016 he and Waterloo released a new recording of the oldie Brown Bear and White Dove by Gus Backus , including a dance version.

On November 22, 2018, Neo Magazin Royale published a self-deprecating clip in which Blanco wants to make himself available as a photo object after his death. He has simulated a few everyday situations in front of a green screen, which every potential buyer can edit as needed in order to be able to distinguish himself on the Internet and social media. The whole thing sees itself as a satirical swipe at modern media culture.

In May 2019 Roberto Blanco received the Schlagerplanet Award 2019 for his life's work.

Blanco is an honorary member of the CSU ("We black people have to stick together!"). The party honored his artistic work. He is committed to the homeless and children, for example by sponsoring World Vision Germany or supporting the Doctors Without Borders project .

Roberto Blanco has two legitimate daughters and a son (* 2001) from an extramarital affair. His daughter Patricia Blanco participated in Big Brother in 2009 and in 2015 I'm a Star - Get Me Out of Here! part.

The divorce from his Swiss wife Mireille became final in December 2012 after almost 50 years of marriage. The following year he married the Cuban Luzandra Strasbourg. From 2015 Blanco lived for a short time in Mondsee in the Salzkammergut in Upper Austria and moved to Ermatingen in Switzerland at the end of 2016 .
