Lotto King Karl aka Karl King (* 4 February 1967 as Gerrit Heesemann in Hamburg ) is a German musician and TV and radio host.

Live and act

The son of a bank clerk and a housewife graduated from the Johanneum School of Academics . Jobs as packer and courier driver and military service in the navy followed. Heesemann calls himself “Lotto King Karl” because of his self-invented legend of the forklift driver Karl König who wins the lottery. In 1995 the debut single "Ich hab 'den Jackpot" was released. In 1996 his debut album "Weiß 'Bescheid ?!" was released. His band, called “Die Barmbek Dream Boys”, consisted at that time of Klaus Volland (guitar), Frank Ramond (choir, guitar, keyboard), Lukas Hilbert (guitar, bass), Frank Itt (bass), Thorsten Heintzsch (keyboard ), Jan Carstensen (saxophone, clarinet) and Lorenz Hoppe (drums). With this album and his presence on a local radio station, he rose to a local size in Hamburg, also because his songs deal with Hamburg topics ( HSV , Reeperbahn , Elbe and Hopihalido ). One of the few songs that became known nationwide is the hymn to his hometown "Hamburg, my pearl".

On February 18, 2000, Lotto King Karl took part in the “ Countdown Grand Prix 2000 ”, the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest, with the song “Fly” and took 7th place.

Lotto King Karl sells his records through its own label Northcoast Records in the distribution of Sony . He regularly gives concerts that he calls the “Rock Over Hamburg” tour, and he is present in the local media.

The single "No Limits, No Fences" was used as an advertising jingle in Berentzen's TV commercials in 2004 and is the only single from "König" that made it into the charts in Germany. In 2003 Lotto King Karl played Andy Ommsen, known as "Stullen-Andi", in The Last Lude in his first film role .

After successfully working with Frank Ramond (now solo on the road and songwriter for Annett Louisan and Ina Müller ) as main songwriter on his first album , he subsequently wrote many songs with his long-time friend Carsten Pape (formerly Clowns & Heroes and Roh ).

Lotto King Karl is often a guest as a commentator or co-presenter on TV shows such as “The 100 most annoying ...” and at the “Chartshow” on RTL . He also moderates the "90s" on RTL 2 . From 2003 to December 2011 he was a radio presenter at Radio Hamburg , where from 2005 he presented the "90s". Lotto King Karl was also one of the stadium speakers at Hamburger SV for 14 years until 2019 . Before every home game, between August 2005 and May 2019, for the first team of HSV, he sang his "hymn" Hamburg, my pearl in the soccer version Hamburg, my soccer pearl live from a crane.

In August 2005 Lotto King Karl began its first nationwide tour under the title “Born2Rock-Live2Die”; so far, his live performances have only been limited to stages in northern Germany .

On May 16, 2006, the police found a small amount of cocaine during a raid on his apartment in Hamburg-Winterhude . According to its own statements, it should have been an older remnant. The court case was dropped in July 2006 against a fine of 12,500 euros.

In April 2008 his album "Seitenwechsel" was released. It was created with his band, the Barmbek Dream Boys. On June 12, 2009, the joint work by Lotto King Karl and Carsten Pape came onto the market. This is their second album together after friends .

On 6 May 2011, the new album was released , "What's up with Frank?" . This is also recorded together with the Barmbek Dream Boys. Lotto King Karl is actively involved in the Laut gegen Nazis association and takes a stand against xenophobia.

After a six-year album break, his latest album 360 Grad was released on May 12, 2017 . The album entered the German charts at number 17 on May 19, 2017.
