Clowns & Heroes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clowns & Helden were a German rock band from Hamburg that was active between 1985 and 1989 .

The band members were Carsten Pape (vocals and lyrics), Bernd Westermann (keyboard), Wolfgang Jensen (vocals), Volker Radow (bass), "Elle" Böndel (drums), Martin Fischbach (guitar and vocals) and Valeri Dobrev (drums) . They are best known today for their hit I love you . The band name comes from Carsten Pape's imagination and has primarily to do with the fact that Clowns & Heroes was conceived as a rock theater from the start.

history

Clowns & Heroes emerged from the band ZULU, which performed in youth centers and gave solidarity concerts for citizens' initiatives, for example against the port expansion in Hamburg- Altenwerder . At first they were only known regionally, around Lüneburg and the Süderelbe region . With their single I love you and through appearances in the WDR show So isses by Jürgen von der Lippe , they achieved greater awareness. I love you reached number four in the German charts and reached gold status . The song originally appeared in 1986 and began accordingly with the line "We have 86 ...". Since the song only appeared in the charts in 1987, the song was re-recorded with the line “We have 87 ...” updated.

I love you remained the only successful single. In 1987 the band released the album Clowns & Heroes. The 1988 album Willkommen in West-Poind-Blanc was a flop. Then the band broke up. Carsten Pape was active in the 1990s in the bands Vopá (1993) and Roh (1996-2000). Pape is friends with Lotto King Karl , has released two albums with him, Friends (2005) and Die Große Liebe (2009), and performs with him.
