I love you is a rock song by clowns & heroes . It was released in advance as the first single from the album Von asserted feelings and other colds in late 1986 .
Creation and publication
The really fast rock song, which is orchestrated with electric guitar, brass and an electric guitar solo at the end, was written by Carsten Pape and Bernd Westermann, the group's keyboardist, and produced by them together with the band. In the lyrics, the protagonist confesses his feelings to the loved one. The song begins with a spoken word intro: "Of all people this has to happen to me / we have '86, and I, the old idiot, fell in love ..." Later it was updated in another version for the year to "'87". In the further course it says: “I am sitting here in front of your stupid photo / and keep noticing how pretty you actually are”. Instead of calling the loved one, however, the protagonist smokes “two or three packets” of cigarettes and keeps his “mouth shut”.
The single was released by Teldec in late 1986 and 1987, respectively . The B-side contains the title Clowns & Heroes to Peal . Also in 1986, a 12 "-Maxi appeared with a 5:50 minute long version on the B-side here is the maxi version of I wonder . I love you, also appeared on the album From protested feelings and the other cold . In addition, A 7 " EP was released for the GDR via Amiga , which, in addition to I love you, also contains the titles Besser , Die Spieler and As ist ist .
With Ich liebe dich the band could often appear on German television, for example in So isses with Jürgen von der Lippe or in the ZDF hit parade . For the first time the band appeared in the latter broadcast on December 17, 1986 as a new presentation, without being able to place themselves for the following issue. After a system changeover to a betting slip, however, the group was voted first three times in a row on February 18, March 18 and April 22, 1987, this time with the updated version.

Reviews
Laut.de called the song a “true classic”, as Kinonews.de wrote: “To this day, the piece is a classic that connects the generations at every party and is still played on the radio.” The website praised the “ unmistakable voice “Papes. Spreeradio called the group a "German one-hit wonder" because of the song. Holger Stürenburg counted Ich liebe dich in his book Forever Young among the best German rock and pop songs of the 1980s.
Chart positions and awards
In Germany , the single first hit the single charts on January 12, 1987 . On March 2, 1987, she reached her highest position in fourth place, and the piece was placed for 20 weeks until May 25, 1987. In Austria the title reached eleventh place and was placed for 16 weeks. In 2007 the single was awarded gold .
