The second German Schlager Competition took place on Thursday, July 3rd, 1969 in the Rhein-Main-Halle in Wiesbaden and was moderated by Dieter Thomas Heck . The organizer was the “Association for the Promotion of German Dance and Popular Music e. V. ". The program was broadcast live in the evening program of ZDF and in parallel in stereo by Deutschlandfunk . The performers were accompanied by the Max Greger Orchestra and the Rosy Singers.

Numerous titles were submitted for the 1969 Schlager competition. A jury selected 24 titles. They were introduced to the listeners of Deutschlandfunk. An opinion research institute then determined the 12 titles for the final on ZDF. The order of appearance at the final was drawn by lot.

After the title was presented, the final result was determined by juries in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich, as well as the listeners of Deutschlandfunk and the audience in the Rhein-Main-Halle Wiesbaden. After adding up all the points, the winner was Roberto Blanco , with the title So today, so tomorrow . The song was written by Gerd Schmidt (music) and Günter Loose (text).

The ZDF broadcast from 1969 was released on a double DVD in 2006 together with the hit competitions in 1968 and 1970.
