Gerhard Hämmerling

Gerhard Hämmerling , pseudonym Charles Gerard (born July 28, 1926 in Berlin ; † May 16, 2006 ibid) was a German music publisher and producer , manager and songwriter .

Life

Hämmerling attended schools in Berlin and Alsace . In the early 1950s he worked as a steward for Deutsche Lufthansa in intercontinental traffic. After a traineeship at the music publisher Hill & Range in New York , he joined the music publishers Peter Schaeffers in Berlin in the late 1950s. On the recommendation of Fritz Schulz-Reichel (“Der weird Otto”) he joined the Meisel music publishers. He later founded the “Nero Musikverlag Gerhard Hämmerling oHG” with Peter Meisel .

During a talent competition, Hämmerling discovered Drafi Deutscher , whose sponsor and manager he became. He also managed Mireille Mathieu , with whom he developed her German lyrics to vocal maturity. He worked closely with Christian Bruhn , the composer of almost all Mireille Mathieu titles. For other hits like "Come to my green side", "Always loose over the stool" or "Hawaiiana Melodie" he wrote texts under the pseudonym Charles Gerard .

Hämmerling also placed western artists on GDR television in East Berlin , such as Mireille Mathieu.
