German Schlager Festival 1998

The German Schlager Festival 1998 took place on March 7, 1998 in the Ortenauhalle in Offenburg . As in the previous year, the Arbeitsgemeinschaft deutscher Musikwettbewerbe (ARGE) called on lyricists and composers to submit songs for this event.

From 548 titles submitted, a jury selected twelve titles for the 1998 Schlager Festival, which were presented to the audience and the jurors on March 7th on the occasion of a live broadcast by Südwestfunk on ARD from Offenburg. As in the previous year, Dieter Thomas Heck led the show .

After the title was presented, the audience and juries from the twelve ARD broadcasters could submit their ratings. The winner was Gaby Baginsky with the title Men understand only what they want, composed by Francesco Bruletti and Uwe Haselsteiner and written by Francesco Bruletti and Norbert Hammerschmidt . The authors and the singer received the "Golden Muse" for this. For Gaby Baginsky it was the first trophy in her career as a pop singer. The “Silver Muse” was won by the authors of the title If you want, sung by the Paldauern . The “Bronzene Muse” was given to the authors of the title Because I'm crazy, sung by André Stade . Some titles from the 1998 Schlager Festival, especially Gaby Baginsky's winning title, are played on the radio every now and then. All of the titles are also available on CD .

In the following year, the German Schlager Festival was held again.
In addition, in 1998 the Grand Prix des Schlagers was held as a unique international competition with participants from Germany and Austria.
