Bernd Gerhard Clüver (born April 10, 1948 in Hildesheim ; † July 28, 2011 in Palma , Spain ) was a German pop singer .
biography
Clüver studied after high school and military service five semesters of Law at the University of Heidelberg . At that time he was already devoting himself to music.
Artistic work
His career as a singer began at the talent show at the 1971 radio exhibition in Berlin . In September 1971 a record deal with the Hansa label followed . With the title She comes again , he appeared for the first time in May 1972 on the ZDF hit parade . On January 20, 1973 he presented the song The Boy with the Harmonica , with which he had his first number one hit . It was the German cover version of the Spanish number one hit El chico de la armónica by Micky from March 1972, the German version of which was sold over 500,000 times after it was released in February 1973. By 1974 the single had sold over a million times in Germany and two million times worldwide. With Der kleine Prinz , he had a second number one success in the German sales hit parade in the same year, which, like its predecessor, sold a million times in this country. Both singles were penned by Peter Orloff and are among the best-selling hits and overall among the best-selling singles in Germany . He was very successful with both songs in some neighboring countries. This was followed by two more top 10 hits: Before you fall asleep and The gateway to the garden of dreams . At the height of his career, he also played the male lead in 1974 in the last, less successful hit film, Two in Seventh Heaven . By 1979 he was able to place four more songs on the sales lists.
Clüver attracted attention in October 1976 with the release of the single Mike and his friend , a cover version of the Rubettes title Under One Roof . For the first time a German pop singer sang about homosexuality . Although the song rose to 44th place in the German charts, it was not allowed to appear in the ZDF hit parade or in the show disco . Rather, the singer had to "assure in interviews across the country that he was not 'like that'."
Clüver also took part twice in German preliminary decisions for the Eurovision Song Contest : in 1983 he was third with the title With 17 written by Dieter Bohlen and fifth in 1985 with Der Wind von Palermo .
In total he sold over 10 million records , had over 5000 appearances on European stages and won numerous prizes. In addition to his work as a pop singer, he also had success as a radio presenter , including at Südwestfunk Baden-Baden. He also worked as a copywriter for himself and other artists.
He released a total of 17 studio albums (with the record company Bellaphon , from 1993 on the Global Records label (distribution: Sony BMG) and from 2002 on his own label, Phenomenia Records ). The only studio album that Clüver released on his own label was released in January 2006 and was called Offen & Ehrlich .
family
In his first marriage, Clüver was married to the model Ute Kittelberger and lived in Mannheim. Later he lived with his second wife Anja Hörnich , Miss Germany 1986/87 and Queen of Europe 1987, with Llucmajor on Mallorca and in Westerstede . The couple divorced in 2011.
Clüver died on July 28, 2011 of the consequences of serious injuries sustained when he fell from a staircase in the village of Illetes in Mallorca. 19 August 2011 his urn was in the North Sea buried .
