Peter Orloff (born March 12, 1944 in Lemgo , actually Pjotr Nikolajewitsch von Orlow ) is a German pop singer , composer , songwriter , music producer and actor .

Life

Peter Orloff comes from a Russian family. His mother Galina Hildegard was German, his father Nikolai von Orlow came from a Russian aristocratic family and was a Protestant clergyman who co-founded the Black Sea Cossack Choir in the 1930s and directed it for decades. At the age of 14, Peter Orloff sang as the youngest member in this choir, at 17 as a solo singer, and went on concert tours with the choir through Europe. He received professional singing lessons and initially had the professional goal of becoming an opera singer. After school (Abitur at Christian-Dietrich-Grabbe-Gymnasium Detmold) he studied law in Cologne at the request of his father . In the 1960s he founded the music band The Cossaks , then he was discovered by the lyricist Heinz Korn , for whom he worked as a studio singer, and in 1967 he released the cover version of The Most Beautiful Girl in the World , one of the GDR singer's greatest hits Günter Geißler (text and music), his first record.

With his second song "It's never too late" he hit the official charts in 1967. His most successful self-sung title to date, A Girl Forever , reached number 16 in the German charts in 1971 and received a gold record . In Belgium , A Girl was the number one hit in the singles charts forever . Other record successes as a singer were Everyone likes you - someone loves you , Whenever I see Josy ' (cover version: Kara, Kara ) and Cora, come home' (cover version: Tom Tom Turn Around ) or a great girl is Monika .

With his hits he appeared in the ZDF hit parade a total of 28 times. He was temporarily excluded from this broadcast in the early 1970s after attempts to manipulate the voting cards for his title Baby Dadamda were uncovered. In the process, “11,307 postcards were filled in with the same handwriting and sent in bundles to the same post office.” Orloff himself vehemently protested his innocence in this regard. Exactly one year later he returned to the ZDF hit parade and took second place ( ZDF hit parade / list of episodes ) with “A Girl Forever” . He was the winner of the ZDF hit parade three times.

Peter Orloff (1992)

In 1974 he worked alongside Bernd Clüver under the direction of Siggi Götz in the hit feature film Two in Seventh Heaven , for which he also composed the film music. Orloff had his breakthrough as a composer when he wrote the music for Peter Maffay in 1969 for the title Du , which became one of Maffay's greatest single successes. The two number one hits The Boy with the Harmonica and The Little Prince by Bernd Clüver , in which Orloff was responsible for the text and music, are synonymous. Orloff also wrote titles for artists such as Freddy Quinn , Rex Gildo , Renate Kern , Bata Illic , Heino , Bernhard Brink , Marion Maerz , Séverine , Elfi Graf , Nina & Mike , Lolita , Mel Jersey , Roy Black and Julio Iglesias . Outside of the hit genre, he worked a. a. also with the German rock band Franz K. and with Birth Control , with whom he recorded his hit “Das brennt as hot as fire”.

After the single success “ Ich liebe Dich” penned by Drafi Deutscher and with the start of Neue Deutsche Welle in the early 1980s, things got quieter around Orloff. But even at that time he was still successful , especially in Austria . For Radio Luxemburg he composed the theme tune for the program “RTL-12 Uhr Mittags” in 1975, which he recorded with his Peter Orloff Sound Orchestra . With "Queen of the Night" he landed the first big Mallorca hit in the 1980s.

In the 1990s, Orloff also devoted himself to folk music , but also remained active in the hit genre. He alternated with Guildo Horn in Cologne's Luxor. He won the ARD Deutsche Schlagerparade produced by Dieter Thomas Heck with “A Girl Forever” . Since 1993 he has been the musical director of the Black Sea Cossack Choir and performs with it in churches and concert halls.

In January 2019 he was at number 7 on the German i-Tunes charts with a new recording of "A Girl Forever". In May, his album “Teure Heimat” (Peter Orloff & the Black Sea Cossack Choir) took second place in the official German charts of the GfK Top 10 Folk Music. In the annual evaluation, the album reached the top 20 there. On December 6, 2019, Peter Orloff made it into the official GfK Top 100 album charts for the first time.

In January 2020 he was honored with two Smago Awards as "The Titan" and as the "Jungle King of Hearts".

Peter Orloff has been married since 1992 and lives in Overath near Cologne .
