Bernhard Brink (born May 17, 1952 in Nordhorn ) is a German pop singer and television and radio presenter .

biography

In the early 1970s, Bernhard Brink, the son of an architect, moved to Berlin and enrolled there to study law. He postponed his studies in favor of music. Since he did not take an exam, he was de-registered after 16 semesters. Instead, Brink signed his first record deal with Hansa Records .

Between 1974 and 1981 he placed a total of twelve singles in the German sales charts in the lower ranks. His greatest chart success to date was Liebe auf Zeit, the sung version of Ricky King's Le rêve, and reached number 13. He nevertheless achieved popularity with his titles and found a fan base. Most of his titles were adaptations of English-language pop titles. Similar to Peter Orloff , his record company often relied on hits penned by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman , such as Frei und Abrannt and I would like to be like you (both 1979).

In the 1980s, when interest in German hits waned, Brink switched several times to ever smaller record companies. Its popularity declined in the mid-1980s, but its productions remained on the market without any attention. He failed six times ( 1979 , 1984 , 1987 , 1988 , 1992 and 2002 ) in the preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest - no other artist took part in this competition as often as he did. In two attempts he had duet partners: Gilda (1988) and Ireen Sheer (2002). From 1989 to 1991 the German pop singer Matthias Reim composed and produced for him.

During the 1990s, Brink became a radio and television presenter in the field of hit music. He moderated for the Berlin radio station Hundert, 6 and television shows such as Das Deutsche Schlager-Magazin or Schlager des Jahres . He gained fame again and was able to use this for his own records. In the early 1990s he was once again successful as a singer. In 1991 he reached second place behind Nicole at the First German Song Festival with the song Geh (before I totally lose my head) . On September 2, 2007, Brink took over the program “Sonntagsvergnügen” on the radio station Antenne Brandenburg , replacing the long-time presenter Ekki Göpelt . In 2009 Brink made a cameo in the film Isch kandidiere! where he pokes at himself as a C celebrity. In 2014, Brink took part in the seventh season of the RTL show Let's Dance with Sarah Latton . Brink is the officially appointed ambassador for the German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation . On February 20, 2016, Brink announced his departure from Die Schlager des Sommers and Die Schlager des Jahres at the congratulations party with Florian Silbereisen . He asked Florian Silbereisen if he would succeed him. In April 2016 Bernhard Brink took part in the big ProSieben Völkerball Championship . Since April 2018 Brink has been presenting the hit of the month on MDR every month . The violent events in Chemnitz in 2018 commented Brink with the words: ". Xenophobia and violence have no place in our society simply" He would be happy "if something we would like #wirsindmehr asked by the organizers of concerts and pop singer."

Bernhard Brink met Ute, an administrator, in 1981 and married her in 1987. Both live in Berlin.
