German Song Festival
The German Song Festival was launched in 1991 by the Association of German Music Competitions . It was intended to revive the tradition of the Schlager festivals and Schlager festivals of the 1960s and be a counterpart to the Grand Prix of Folk Music Competition founded in 1986 in the field of Schlager. On this occasion, a jury selected 15 songs from over 1000 submitted titles, which were presented to the public on August 31, 1991 on the occasion of the live broadcast of ZDF Schlager '91 from the Deutschlandhalle in Berlin as part of the IFA Berlin . Wencke Myhre , Pit Weyrich and Uwe Hübner were presenters of the television program . At the end of the broadcast, five juries (divided into viewers from North, East, South, West and Berlin) with a total of 150 jurors chose the winning title. It won Nicole with her song A quiet song, the Klaus Löhmer composed and Hans-Ulrich Esp had texted. The authors and Nicole thus received the "Golden Pop Band". The winning song stayed in the charts for a few weeks. Other songs in the competition also appeared in the hit lists. Nevertheless, the response to the event was muted.
In the following year 1992 there was still a continuation of the song festival. From 462 entries, a jury initially selected twenty titles and then a new jury selected ten titles from these , which the audience could choose from on May 30th on the occasion of the live broadcast of ZDF Schlager '92 from the Böblingen sports hall . The TV show was moderated by Dieter Thomas Heck . Out of competition guests included Pe Werner , Die Flippers and Matthias Reim . At the end of the broadcast, viewers could choose their favorites via TED. The votes were summarized in 8 regional nodes and then individually queried and added. It won Hanne Haller with the song Honey, I do not want to complain so, they had composed themselves. Bernd Opinion wrote the text for it . The authors received the "Golden Pop Band". Even after this competition, some of the titles could be found in the charts.
After this second event of the German Song Festival, the competition was initially discontinued. However, the old tradition was revived in 1994 with the German Schlager Festival .
In addition, in 1998, the Grand Prix des Schlagers , as a competition with participants from Germany and Austria and a one-time international competition, should take up the issue of the German Song Festival once again.
