German Schlager Festival 1961

The third German Schlager Festival took place on September 23, 1961 in the Rhein-Main-Halle in Wiesbaden . As in the two previous years, the organizer was Radio Luxemburg, a radio station popular with Schlager fans at the time . As early as June 1961, the first German Schlager Festival was held in Baden-Baden to compete with the Schlager Festival .

In addition to the two events, there was also the German preliminary decision for the 6th Eurovision de la Chanson Européenne Grand Prix in 1961, which was broadcast on February 25, 1961 from the Kurtheater in Bad Homburg in front of the height .

At the start of Radio Luxemburg's third Schlager Festival, there were 12 titles presented by Leonie Brückner , Claus Herwig , Jimmy Makulis , the Penny Pipers , Günter Plech and Caterina Valente . The performers were accompanied by the RIAS dance orchestra under the direction of Werner Müller . The finalists had previously been determined from 45 titles on the occasion of several preliminary decisions between September 18 and 22, 1961 in the Rhein-Main-Halle Wiesbaden.

In contrast to the previous year, the 1961 festival received less positive feedback. Nevertheless, some of the titles in the competition also found their way into the charts. In the autumn of 1961, however, Radio Luxemburg had it declared that it would no longer hold the Schlager Festival and that it would concentrate on awarding the Golden Lion .
