German Schlager Competition 1970
The third German Schlager competition took place on June 4, 1970 in the Rheingoldhalle in Mainz .
The organizer was the “Association for the Promotion of German Dance and Popular Music e. V. ". The program was broadcast live on ZDF and Deutschlandfunk and moderated by Elfie von Kalckreuth . The performers were accompanied by the Max Greger Orchestra and the Rosy Singers.
A total of 527 titles were submitted for the 1970 Schlager competition. A jury selected 18 titles. These were presented to the listeners of Deutschlandfunk from April 19 to 29. An opinion research institute then determined the 12 titles for the final on ZDF. On May 14, 1970, the sequence of appearances at the finals was determined in the ZDF turntable.
After the titles had been presented, the final result was determined by five groups of listeners. The first group was made up of the listeners on Deutschlandfunk. The second group was made up of 50 listeners to Radio Luxemburg, the results of which were transmitted by Frank Elstner . The third group was made up of 50 listeners from RIAS Berlin, the results of which were submitted by John Hendrik . The fourth group was made up of 50 listeners to the Europawelle Saar, the results of which were transmitted by Dieter Thomas Heck . The fifth group formed the audience of the live broadcast in the Rheingoldhalle Mainz.
After adding up all the points, the winner was Howard Carpendale with the title The beautiful girl from page 1 . The song was composed by Hans Blum .
The ZDF broadcast from 1970 was released on a double DVD in 2006 together with the hit competitions in 1968 and 1969.
